There’s no secret I like Tramon Williams. Now I have another reason to like him. Despite not getting a new deal yet, he’s at the off-season workouts.
A couple weeks ago, “news” broke that Tramon was holding out! Holding out of what? Exactly. Off-season conditioning is the first thing to “hold out” of and he’s there, unlike Nick Collins.
Tom Silverstein wrote that “The Packers may have agreed to start working on a new deal if Williams attends the off-season program. He will be the lowest paid of the top five cornerbacks on the roster if he signs his tender and the Packers probably want to see if they can get him signed long term so he can eventually take over for Charles Woodson or Al Harris.”
Every part of that is good. He’s showing up and a new deal is in the future (which I said would happen). Tommy also adds that Tramon is likely to take over for one of the big dogs, another thing I’ve been saying for a long time.
This probably isn’t a big deal to many, but Tramon is one of my favorite players so seeing him show the class and determination to get this business done makes me happy.
Now Tramon could very well not show up to OTA’s if he doesn’t have a contract yet. Will he not show up? I don’t think so. He’ll be there, having Jarrett Bush and Pat Lee carrying his bags.
I know this part of the year everyone is in “new player” mindset, but making sure we have guys like Tramon waiting in the wings is a very big deal. It looks like a new deal is in the works, and an in-shape Tramon is in Green Bay already.
