John's latest encounter with Bears fans

Only in Chicago...

I was on my way home from work today, minding my own business, trying to unwind from my first day back at work from the long holiday weekend. The radio was on, and one of my favorite favorite Beatles songs came on, which helped the relaxing efforts. All was good, for now.

As I approached a stoplight, I saw from my side mirror a green luxury vehicle racing up the right lane in an effort to get along side me. It is not uncommon for cars to travel the normal 10-20 miles per hour over the speed limit on this street, and since everyone is in a big hurry for no reason, I was not concerened about their desperately wanting my attention.

You might recall that my car, while far from being a mobile shrine to the Packers, does have enough on it to point out that it is driven by a Packer fan. Important fact to remember.

When the green car finally got along side me, the driver and its passenger both began to salute me using several fingers less than a full hand, as well as bang on the side of the car, which had a Bears magnet plastered on the drivers side door. Apparently they absolutely needed to let me know that they were Bears fans, and would stop at nothing to make sure I knew.

While they continued to bang on the car door, I reached into the back seat and retrieved a new addition to the car I was planning on putting on when I got home, presented it to my new friends, and saluted them in the same fashion they had saluted me.

No more banging on the car door. One final salute was in order from them, and off they went.

I guess a reminder was what they needed as to which team was superior. Apparently they had forgotten this.

I swear, only in Chicago...

I would have probably done the same thing, and then gone home and regretted the one digit salute. Not because they deserved politeness, but because it's just so much cooler to just point out the superbowl win and do nothing else.

Then again, I may not be the best at giving advice on being cool.

Being a life-long cheesehead who had the misfortune of growing up in Chicago, I can certainly attest to this shameless jackass-ery. Fortunately, I have since moved out of the God-forsaken state of IL and look forward to the day I can move to WI.

Thank you.

It is always good to hear from fellow Packer fans who live or have lived in Chicago to verify the tales I like to share. I've said it before and it's worth repeating-unless you have lived in Chicago and seen up close how Bears fans can be, you don't really know how douchy they can be.

Thanks for reading!
