Apparently we'll play a lot of 2 FB formations, and also lot's of 3 dbs sets. Who needs 2 safeties?

Figured Tyrell Sutton made a huge case for himself.

My biggest concern will be to see if Aaron Rodgers is upset about losing his best friend to Swain.

Ruvell may make a squad somewhere else. He could be their no. 1 or 2 in chicago.

Aaron Rodgers know this is a job.

And besides, Thompson signed me to a contract, to hold the football for Crosby. :D

Laces Out...

Suprised by Anthony Smith, Jamon Meredith and Brian Brohm. Not surprised Swain beat out Ruvell. Swain's special team and WR stock have risen. Will Brohm and Meredith be eligible for the Practice Sqaud? Hope Ruvell finds a home where he is needed. Looks like Allen and Heckendorf have bought themselves another year in Green Bay.

I'm not as surprised about Tyrell Sutton. Dude doesn't have much blocking experience and we don't need four RBs on the roster. This doesn't bother me nearly as much as it does everyone else. We're fine at this spot and a fourth RB is excessive.

Supposedly we're shopping around John Kunn...interesting that he and the other two FBs are still on the roster. What is TT planning, that sly dog? Kunn will either get cut or traded...who is his roster spot reserved for? Someone that was (1) cut (2) we're going to trade for (3) we're gona pick up on waivers?

And Rouse is still on the roster. Smith seemed much better than Rouse and Bush.

cutting smith was a bold and studpid move. don't think so? talk to me about it when bigby gets hurt, again. and we have jarret GDed MFn bush starting at saftey.

i hope TT makes a move to cover this one up.

I am really, really pissed they cut Smith. Really pissed.

Otherwise I'm not shocked. A little surprised Thompson gave up on Brohm already, but honestly, it was the right move. And it'll shut up some of the moronic TT-Haters about him being blindly stubborn.

I'm guessing there's a trade in the works to get a bit of a backup QB upgrade. Unless they're really that high on Flynn.

I really do find Smith to be the most surprising of all these cuts. I thought he had a great preseason, the safety position has been iffy and he was really the only off season pick up the Packers did. Everything else was somewhat expected.

I don't understand why they let Meredith go after trading Moll either... Who's gonna play tackle?
Maybe Tauscher...

Well Alex, you lose the bet. There was an UDFA that made the team. I thought it would be an OL, and I liked Dietrich-Smith, but thought Hartline had an edge. Here's what I wrote back then:

"Detrich-Smith has played every OL position, plays tough and will be a difficult cut, but he’s the victim of the numbers game at OL. I think Hartline could be the guy to make the roster outright."

"OG/C Evan Detrich-Smith, Idaho State. 6′ 2″, 305 lbs, 5.13 40 yd dash. Ranked 64 out of 183 Offensive tackles by NFLDraftScout.com. Started 44 games for Idaho State and played all 5 line positions. Named Team MVP his senior season. The Packers outbid the Jets to sign Detrich-Smith, topping the Jets offer several times. Lacks ideal height for a tackle, Packers are giving him a shot at guard and center."

I think the fact that Dietrich-Smith played EVERY position on the line in college gave him the edge.

I wish people would relax about Anthony Smith. We replace him with Derrick Martin, another 3 year vet, coming from a 34, who can play corner AND safety, and by all accounts will do more on special teams. Besides, Smith got kicked out of one town for being a pain in the butt, and maybe, just maybe he gambled a little too much for their liking. I'm surprised it went down this way--but basically switching dime backs at the last minute for a guy that's more versatile just isn't that big of a deal to me.

Now, about carrying three fullbacks...different story. I find it interesting they're shopping Kuhn. I'm one of the few souls who thought they'd keep Kuhn over Hall because he's bigger, can rush the ball here and there, and (in my opinion) is about equal in receiving and special teams.

I's not that Smith has played exceptionally well... It's that he has clearly outplayed everybody contending for that spot. Saying that he gambled too much isn't a good argument, not when Bush didn't gamble and still got beat, and still took terrible angles...

Perhaps he just wasn't a "Packer person", "a football guy", word was he had character issues with the coaches in Pitt. So the packers took a 'gamble' signing him as a FA to see if what he needed was a change in scenery. Maybe he is just a real D-bag. Oh well, get over it---atleast a verteran S/CB of the 3-4 was in the plans with Martin.

Depth at CB is shit. Brandon Underwood should have been a practice squad guy (though who cares if he got picked up before that), then what.... Jaret Bush, dear God I hope our two vets or tramon never go down.

otherwise I'm happy Brad Jones made the team, and Brett Swain.

I think we'll end up using one of our FBs as trade bait and hopefully pick up a backup Qb. McCown has already gone to the jags though.
