Thats a good question, I'm going to go with the year he hits the Hall of Fame, It us Packer fans sometime to recover from the mess from this year. I also think he's done for good, He always said he'll only keep playing if he thinks he can perform at his normal level and he showed that he sure couldn't all of last year.

They should not even put a timetable on it for awhile. Just let things settle for a year or two. Give everybody time to calm down and put things into perspective. Hopefully some dialogue will begin between Brett and the organization, then they can start thinking about setting a date to retire his number.

I'm not sure what Mike Florio is bitching about in that link. It was perfectly fine for the Packers to issue a brief statement about this. And of course the marketing deal is off. Nobody ever said it was a standing offer, as far as I know, and I'm not sure if it was ever a formal offer in the first place. So Florio is the one who should keep his mouth shut.

I'm not certain he or management would want to make that sort of agreement this quickly. Management may for PR purposes. And Favre may to get some closure. But something tells me its too early.

Yeah it's possible that it would be more appropriate when he isn't so bitter about the situation. Time will heal the situation eventually, hopefully that is sooner than later.

Definitely not this year, I voted for next year, but I could definitely see them waiting until his HOF year. Although it will likely be somewhere in between there. Time heals all wounds, like Tyler said, and that is what they need right now (they as well as a lot of the Packer/TT haters out there that will probably come out of the woodwork again)

I don't see GB waiting five years. They love cashing in on him. I bet they'de like it sooner than later-- hence the insincere statement released earlier.

now that I've had time to think about this more, it would be friggin' awesome if they retired it this year at the home opener like it should have been done last year. The crowd would be jacked for the game with him there-- I can imagine the atmosphere now. It would do the fans and players a lot of good.

Now way. he would never be booed at Lambeau. There were thousands of Jet Favre jerseys there for all three of the games I went to this past year. That's the bias of this site. Yeah people are mixed, but even people who were against him who be going nutz if was back there. If you've been there you'de understand.

I am very serious, I agree that he did alot for the team, but he left like an asshole, If your girlfriend you loved for 17 years left you for your rival neighbour and told the whole world she wanted to fuck him, would you boo her or cheer for her, it's the same type of thing, Brett betrayed the Packers.

Don't get me wrong I respect the guy but he retired, then when he decided he wanted to make a come back after the Packers got Rodgers ready and told him he was going to start after sitting for 3 seasons what do you do, tell him to sit back down and let the old man play.

We wern't 6-10 because of our QB, we were there because our defence fell apart when we needed it, Our Running game couldn't handle the pressure and our ST gave up too many points. So quit thinking like a dumb ass and be glad we got rid of Favre when we did and have a superstar QB in the making on the roster.

And If I was a player I would have said well it's only fair that I don't start after I said I'm retired and they had to prepare to move on without me. So If I'm going to play I'd really rather play in the AFC where I won't hurt the team that has payed me over 100 million dollers and given me the chance to start where nobody else would. If it wern't for the Packers he would have been out of the leauge in 97 and would probably still be an alcohlic like he was before he got sent to rehab. So it's a two way street, The Packers and Favre should be thankful for each other.

I am with Paul on this one. I love Brett as much as the next guy and I respect him and yes, he is definitely one of the best ever...but to be a baby like he was not only last year, but the past few offseasons, he lost a little respect in my eyes.

When you saw him on the field it would be completely different. You have to consider that the people that have tickets have them every year-- essientially, they've seen his entire career unfold there. It wouldn't be as mixed when you consider who has the tickets. He's done way too many magical things there for me to even second guess that the booes would outweight the cheers.

And again, even the people that were upset would melt just seeing him on that field again on gameday. You can't see it but I do. excitement on gameday is going to high-- even for lambeau. It's going to be an emotional day, not an angry one.

Some people might boo him. I wouldn't rule that out. And as someone said, even if it is just some people booing, you can usually hear that. You don't want to risk that at the retirement ceremony for possibly the best player to ever wear a Packer uniform. And even if nobody boos, there would still be a lot of mixed feelings in the crowd. A lot of fans wouldn't really be ready to enjoy it. So give it a year or two and let bygones be bygones.

Your point is taken, Asshalo. I have been to several games, and I know the fans in the stands are much more positive than the ones in front of their TV sets. They are happy just to be at Lambeau. An example is that last game against the Lions. My sister was there, and she said the tailgating was a blast and so was the game. This was in spite of the fact that the Packers were wrapping up a very disappointing season and were playing the worst team in the history of the league.

I guess with this Favre thing, I'm just being more conservative. I don't see what is to be gained by retiring Favre's number right away, and the mood will only get better, not worse, over the next year or two. They were stupid for wanting to retire his number immediately last year, and it would be an even bigger mistake if they tried to do it again.

The best thing is, Favre won't have anything to do with the Green Bay Packers even though they are going to want him to and I love him for that. Once TT is gone, it's a different story. You may not want to believe it because you only see things on the surface, but something else happened between Brett and the Packers in the last 2-3 seasons. Something between him and TT happened and it'll be years before we find out. That sucks, cuz people will take it all on Brett, saying he's a baby and what not, but Brett's a big boy. He don't care what you think and if I were in his shoes, I woulda done probably the same exact thing. And to be honest as a Packer fan and a Brett Favre fan and feeling both sides of the equation, which most of you do not do, if I were Brett... I'd never let them make another dime off me. Screw em, they used Brett for years and gave him mediocre players most of his prime time years. Screw em Brett, the Packers did you wrong and people that can get past their Green and Gold blood can see that.

No, winning every season but 1 is why people gave him passes. He won, even as a Jet, his team won. You cant call 16 of 17 seasons some sort of luck, Brett Favre had a huge part in the reason for all those wins. THAT is the reason fans gave him a pass in GB. If he threw INT's and we were losing 9,10,11 games a season.. the fans of any city, including GB wouldn't of had it. But because he was a winner, Brett.. not the fans, is why he was around so long.

show me another QB that had one losing season in 17 seasons?.. can you?.. nothing to do with a Favre guy, he took mediocre players and kept winning. Even in Favre's prime years, the packers were a joke and didnt surround him with talent, yet he kept on churning...

Favre had some great seasons. He also had some monumental collapses when the team needed him most. He was a very good, but flawed player.

Spare me the bit about Favre rescuing the Packers. He was an important cog (but still just a cog) in the Packers' rebuilding.

Let's also get one other thing straight: its a two way street. Favre helped the Packers, but without the Packers Favre would be long forgotten by now. You think he would be heading to the HOF if he was forced to languish away down in Atlanta with Glanville? Snow balls chance.

People forget just how important Holmgren was in Favre's maturation. I was at the preseason game in Camp Randall back in the 90s when the crowd roared (and I mean ROARED) when Favre finally threw the ball out of bounds rather than into a defenders hands. Wolf and Holmgren stuck with Favre until its clicked for him. I doubt he would have had that much leeway any where else. And don't forget there were many voices WITHIN the Packers that thought Favre wasn't worth the risk and wanted to go with Brunnel. But the Packer stuck with Favre and it paid off. So spare me all the "Favre made the Packers" BS.

Then Holmgren left and Favre got lazy and forgot everything that Holmgren taught him.

so do you really think if we don't have Favre, the last 16-17 years would have been better? You can throw all the arguments out there about coaches, GM's, other personnel.... but it was Favre and his TALENT that came thru for us and how you can argue that is beyond me.
