Ted Thompson’s Lullaby
By JohnRehor on Apr 27, 2011 with 2 Comments
Every year it’s the same thing.
The NFL Draft approaches, and Packer fans all wonder the same thing: what the hell is Ted Thompson going to do this year?
It’s become almost a mantra, a source of pride for Packers fans, and a source of discussion, head scratching, and some good old fashioned humor to try and decipher what Ted is going to do. Then, as each pick is made, the inevitable decoding of each player selected is done by the media, bloggers, fans, and for all we know the players themselves, trying to figure out whether Ted has finally gone full cuckoo.
This year is obviously a little different. Winning the Super Bowl will undoubtedly allow Thompson a certain leniancy in his drafting analysis. However, there is little doubt that at the end of this weekend, Ted will do a few things that will raise some eyebrows, cause great celebration, and prove once again that no matter what way he thinks is the right way, the only thing that matters is winning the Super Bowl, and this next batch of Packers will somehow help the cause in 2011 and beyond.
So, with that being said, I give you my interpretation of what Ted Thompson will be thinking as he goes nite nite tonight, the eve of the 2011 NFL Draft. Any and all similarities to what Ted Thompson is actually thinking about tonight is purely coincidental, and downright creepy.
Now I lay me down to sleep
I dream about what picks I should keep
Should I stay put at thirty two?
Or trade it away, pick up an extra few?
I was thinking about wide receiver, maybe a CB
You know some of those guys are getting kinda old, like C Wood and Double D
Maybe Bulaga could use a buddy, on the other side of the line
Cliffy can’t play forever, with those knees held together with string and twine
How about at running back, even with Grant coming back?
Grant, Starks, and hopefully Jackson-well, we do seem pretty stacked
D line is solid, just hope I get Jenkins back
Maybe I should have negotiated in the season, wouldn’t have gotten so much flack
I just keep hearing in my head “It is time”, said by my man Kevin Greene
If I had another guy like Matthews at OLB, now THAT would be a scene
Two edge rushers, flying around the corner, taking the QB down
Hitting that douche from Chicago so hard he’s got a permanent frown
Alright, I think I’ve got it, I know what I’m going to do
The big board is set, I’ve got my guys in sight, but I know me too
I’ll get the guys I want, with a head scratcher or two of course
The fans will have to be told calm down, I know what I’m doing-just par for the course
In the end, it’s my draft, I just hope they trust me
I got the fans one Lombardi Trophy-now I’m planning for another two or three

I don’t know when Ted will pick, but we’ll get a player then, son. You know we’ll get a good one then.
Can’t get it out of my head.
I’ll leave the singing to Alex-I prefer to rely on the power of the pen, or keyboard.
