The Skinny

Matt Flynn says that his shoulder will be fine. If it had been a regular season game he would have stayed in.

The X RAYs on Nick Collins came back negative. I would imagine they will be really careful with Nick for now.

It's probably safe to assume that Devin Frischknecht broke his leg.

B.J. Raji looks like the real deal.

Johnny Jolly played like a man on a mission.

Desmond Bishop is a stud.

Let's hope Aaron Rodgers never gets hurt, the backups are not getting it done.

Lumpkin probably played himself off the team tonight.

The offensive line has not looked better in quite some time.

Grades

Offense: A

Defense: A

Overall, the Packers dominated this game with their starters. It was almost too good. I guess I won't complain.

Check back later for more details and video highlights.

Jolly is the best DL in the team right now. He's playing so fine, that if Raji indeed steps up, it'll be on the right side or in the inside...

Kampman is the worst LB in the team right now. Bishop has been the best. Poppinga has rebound very nicely from last week's game, and everybody else is doing great. For those who are complaining about A.J., the fumble recovery in this gameand the hit on the receiver for a pass drop on 3rd down last game show me he's been a very nice weapon. Won't see him sack a lot, but one can't deny that he's great at stopping the run, and has improved so far on the passing game, not having to cover the TE deep and all...

Aaron Rodgers hasn't even been pressured so far. Grant has been very effective, and Sutton has been amazing. The OL has looked very good.

The best: the penalties have diminished! The 1st stringers have commited 2 penalties so far in the preseason, and the backups cutted down nicely from last game. And even then, I think both Buffalo and Cleveland committed more penalties than us in both games...

It's just pre-season, but those tell you a lot about what we got going on right now... Won't say we're contenders YET. Got to wait for next game to say it ;)

It's hard to quibble with individual players' performances when the starting units are performing so well. Aaron Kampman may be making fewer plays than the other LB's, but that doesn't make him the "worst" LB. I think he is probably the best. Bishop has made the most plays, but I would like to see him get some playing time with the first-stringers. He no longer needs to prove himself against second and third stringers.

I was glad to see the reduction in penalties compared to last week. I love seeing Rodgers looking for the TE's now, which he did not do enough last year. A lot of it has to do with Jermichael Finley, of course, who may make the biggest impact of anyone this year, with the exception of Dom Capers.

I think Flynn will be fine as a backup. Too bad he didn't get to play much against the Bills. Brohm still sucks, big-time.

Those two passes from Rodgers to Driver in the Red Zone (one that went down at the three and one for a TD)-- I don't think those catches would have been made last year. Rodgers threw behind driver on the first and someone who wasn't looking closely enough would say it was lucky improvisation. Driver knew to expect that on some level. The chemistry is there so Rodgers doesn't have to thread the needle and the WRs can make the plays. Last year we were dropping those passes. Image how hard those passes are going to be to defend. This offense is going to be scary if it improves over last year.

Contrary to what I though earlier, I think Rodgers can afford to get hurt 0.5-2 maybe three games, depending what part of the schedule it is. Flynn has shown he can be poised and make the throws he needs to. Brohm showed slight improvement last night-- the amount of INTs is alarming though. He wasn't quite getting the protection at times but that's inexcusable.

I'm also worried because our OLBs aren't getting many sacks. Capers may be holding his packages close though.

Good point about the playing "vanilla". But I think we're not gonna be like Dallas, that relies solely on DeMarcus Ware to create pass rush. We're coming from everywhere, specially the middle. Our DL are all playmakers, too (can't believe I've said that. If I'd said it last year, I would've shoot myself). We'll see more against Az, road game, passing team, great Wrs, great Qb. If we create the same kind of pressure we've been creating, without letting the wrs get open, like we're doing sometimes, we're poised to do good things this year. Early February good things...

Chillar and Bishop have played and will continue to play key roles in keeping us versatile. Jolly's been playing good, but Raji's got some great push for only being here a week. I didn't think I'de be saying this a month ago, but the front 3 have the potential to be very good this year. If only we have another legit DE to be the 2nd depth player-- Wynn should fit that role in the future.

How about Collins? I hope we sign him before he gets to free agency. With an improved pass rush he's poised to have an even better year than last. Not INTs, less blown coverage (no reason he can't get 5-8 INTs this year though)...now if only he can keep popping up his dropped INTs to our guys.

Aaron Rogers not only looked poised, and confident against the rush.

He looked like a dictator out there on the field.

The Defense looked menacing, as Trent Edwards looked like a Rookie out there.
