The pick for Tony is for next year. It could be the 32nd pick. That’s 9 spots higher than we went for last year. It should have gotten done. Ten, yes ten time ProBowler.
Dale, had Ted traded a 2nd round pick for Gonzalez, would you have criticized the move? (No, you wouldn’t have.) Just sayin’…
I would have acknowledged it would be a short term move and a move that doesn’t help fix what needs to be fixed most(defense).
I guarantee you, had Thompson traded a 2nd round pick to get Gonzales, the same people who are saying this is such a bad move, would have praised Thompson for trading for him.
I was REALLY hoping we would get him; because of his talent obviously, and so I could dig up all the old posts of people saying that a trading 2nd round pick for him would be “way too much.”
Last October:
“Trading a 2nd round pick for a 33 yr old TE? No thanks. That would have been a terrible move. Ted is smarter than that.”

Thanks, it was my first time really giving it a go. I’m sure Alex had a good laugh. It’ll get better as each podcast goes.
I’m starting to wonder what I did to make IM call me a theoretical hypocrite though. Yeah, I would have SUPPORTED the move, as I support all moves the PACKERS make, but I would have acknowledged the positives AND negatives of it. Every deal, move, trade, re-signing has positives and negatives. I always try to stay on the positive side of things. Sorry if that offends.
Do you guys know about the “Un-Capped” year? Restricted free agents extends to 6 years not 4, and we will have 2 franchise tags. Jennings wont be going anywhere because he wont be a free agent.
Jennings won’t be leaving Green Bay, ever.
Ted Thompson would get runned out of town by all Packers fans, and not just from the Church of Favretology, if he let him leave.

I guess I feel like WT22 over at Hq and I quote” Well, I wasn’t on the “get Gonzalez train”, but I like the move on Atlanta’s part.
Is a 2nd round pick a lot? Yeah, probably, but it’s a 2010 pick so some would value that like a 3rd rounder. That’s still steep but a little more palatable. Sums it up nicely.
Perhaps the true value of a 2nd rd. pick would lie in the % of 2nd rd. picks that become solid NFL players, for 2-3 yrs. Then compare that # to the odds that Gonzales will be of benefit to the Falcons for 2-3 yrs. I’d have made that trade in a heartbeat. We all expect the Pack to improve this year…say they only go 8-8. That means the 2nd rd pick next year will be about #16. I think Gonzales is worth a #16, don’t you?
