Packers Player Ratings Madden 2011

The Green Bay Packers Madden 2011 player rankings are out. They're also wrong.

Just got my first look at the Madden ratings for 2011 in depth. As usual, nobody at Madden really has a clue what they are talking about. To check out the entire list in detail head on over to ESPN. They have a list of all the teams and the individual breakdowns. I am too lazy to post that list. But, I have just enough energy to bitch about it.

Receivers

Giving Greg Jennings a 90 is terrible. He should be a 92 or a 93. What hurt him was toughness at 75. That's way off. Jennings has taken plenty of big licks and walked away.

I'm okay with Driver at 89. If your a Packer fan 90 could be appropriate.

They gave Finley some props with 88 swagger. The highest on the team. They should have given some of that back to Driver for his first down celebrations.

Derrick Lee higher rated than Jones and Nelson. Must be some good shit. (EDIT: That's Donald Lee - thanks to some dude on Twitter)

Havner got no love at 62. He's at least a 65.

Running Backs

This list further confirms my long time statement that we need another playmaker in the backfield. I can't disagree with any of it.

Quarterbacks

Aaron Rodgers gets a 94. Solid rating, dead on.

Matt Flynn gets the second lowest rating on the squad. Veteran. Now.

Offensive Line

Giving Sitton a 78 is shameful. Otherwise, that's our line. A bunch of 80's. I have a buddy who swears around building a franchise of 80's. I'm okay with that strategy.

They really think Colledge sucks.

Linebackers

Nick Barnett should really have the biggest swagger on the team. He does it in life, and on every play. Good or bad.

No one ever gives Jones or Chillar any respect. Especially Chillar, they make him look like a pansy with 73 hit power, and 49 power move. I'd be pissed if I were him.

Defensive Line

Seriously, the Big Grease gets 35 for swagger? The lowest on the team? That's terrible.

If you go strictly on Madden ratings alone, Harrell and Wynn are going to get cut.

Defensive Backs

Charles Woodson is the highest ranked player on the team at 97.

Tramon Williams is under ranked at 75. He is a solid 80.

Will Blackmon and Jarret Bush have the same rating. Just sayin'.

Kicking Squad

Tim Masthay is a solid 49. That's still better than Derrick Frost. I'm done arguing punters.

I imagine that when the first update comes out some of these ratings will change to reflect several of these obvious errors. Otherwise, it's about as good as one can expect from some computer dude trying to get ratings done on 32 teams with 53 players a piece in time to get home for a beer. That's how that works.

We'll talk again in 2012.

EDIT: Thanks to PackersRS for pointing out in the comment section that Pat Lee isn't even ON the list. He would have certainly made the poll.

Without trying to cause a huge debate, what does it say when the second highest rated RB is John Kuhn? Not Brandon Jackson, John Kuhn.

It says we need another running back. But, as McCarthy will tell you late next Saturday. "Brandon Jackson is looking awesome."

You mean he's looking "powsitive" in his best Pittsburgh accent?

Just terrific. Let's add another fullback while we're at it.

I overlooked the Williams ratings. That and Sittion may be the biggest snubs. He could start easily.

Mildly surprised Havner didn't get higher due to his TDs.

"Tim Masthay is a solid 49. That’s still better than Derrick Frost. I’m done arguing punters."

lol. Hopefully the Aussie rates higher due to the backspin he puts on his punts.

"I have a buddy who swears around building a franchise of 80′s."

As long as their is plenty of back-up 80s to provide depth for the starting 80s.

One way, they're terrible at evaluating.
"Giving Sitton a 78 is shameful."
"Tramon Williams is under ranked at 75. He is a solid 80."
"Seriously, the Big Grease gets 35 for swagger? The lowest on the team? That’s terrible."
Giving Greg Jennings a 90 is terrible. He should be a 92 or a 93. What hurt him was toughness at 75. That’s way off. Jennings has taken plenty of big licks and walked away."
"No one ever gives Jones or Chillar any respect. Especially Chillar, they make him look like a pansy with 73 hit power, and 49 power move. I’d be pissed if I were him."

Another way, their evaluations make a case for some opinions:
"Will Blackmon and Jarret Bush have the same rating. Just sayin’."
"This list further confirms my long time statement that we need another playmaker in the backfield. I can’t disagree with any of it."
"Matt Flynn gets the second lowest rating on the squad. Veteran. Now."

Kind of a duble standard, isn't it?

------

I believe the people who rates the players are full of shit. They just have no knowledge of football whatsoever, and grade accordingly to the players' fame.

Want proof? Go take a look at Pat Lee's ratings. Oops, HE'S NOT IN THE GAME! The probable week 1 nickel CB isn't in the game. C.J. Wilson isn't, also. Brad Jones wasn't either with the first release... I can ALMOST understand not including a 7th round pick. But Lee was a freaking 2nd rounder! At least do your homework, Madden people!

So, to summarize, Madden people, you suck. I mean, you could get a 10 year old and he would do better roster evaluations than these guys. At least, he would include Pat Lee on the Packers' roster...

Wow, can't disagree with any of this. Makes me question spending the 60 bucks. I scream at this years when ridiculous shit that would never actually happen leads to something negative for me.. But in the end I'm still A mark for anything Packers, especially video games.

Great read Alex! I LOLed through the entire thing. When I first looked at the ratings I noticed what the hell is swagger??? Did they spend all their time thinking that THIS is what will make Madden great this year? In the words of Ochocinco, "child please!"

Ok dumb question...but what does "swagger" have to do with a guy's rating. From what I can tell you get higher swagger if you're good, loud, hold-out, kill a dude, deal drugs, or fight dogs. What relevance does this have in the game?

it's some stupid new promotional rating this year with Old Spice. It doesnt affect the OVR rating of a player or anything on how they play, just on the type of celebrations the perform.

A few things wrong with this assessment:

- as far as I know, TGH rating does not affect a players overall, and certainly not enough to drop someone 3 full points. Jennings had a so-so year last year so 90 is aprops

-Wynn and Harrell would NOT be cut by virtue of the fact that they're on the game...the rosters are Madden's prediction of the 53 man roster.

-And it isn't just some "computer guy" doing the list. It's some punk named Donny Moore who calls himself the "rating czar"...pathetic.

If you want a good NFL game, boycott Madden and pray their exclusive rights agreement is not renewed. We need competition to make the market good again.

In franchise mode I've always found TGH and INJ to correlate. Important if you are always in franchise mode.

I'm okay with Madden but I'd like a little bit more variety.

It has to reflect our final rating though, so yeah some guys are going to get shafted. I'm sure future updates will reflect guys better though.

All I know is they TOTALLY blew up the old way of controlling a guy with the ball in their hand. They scrapped the speed-burst all together (not sure how I feel about that), but reading about the new configuration and how much control you have gives me a woody. Can't wait.

Who cares about Masthay's rating, Aussie Chris Bryan will win the gig at GB. I cannot wait to see what the clowns who devise these ratings will make of Bryan's ability to perform the checkside punt/banana kick, coffin corner kick, drop punt etc.........
