Is that it for Atari Bigby?

With the news just coming out from Mike McCarthy that Atari Bigby will undergo a second ankle surgery tomorrow in North Carolina, this may spell the end for Atari in Green and Gold and perhaps his career.
I’m not surprised I guess. Quite simply, the guy has never been able to stay healthy. He’s never been one to play through injury, and his helmet off routine at the end of the playoff game against the Cardinals was atrocious.
I had high hopes for Atari this season at least to show some of the promise and flash he did a couple of games early in his career. You have to admire the guy for coming through the ranks of NFL Europe and onto the big stage, but perhaps Atari’s time has finally come to an end.
It is most certain that at the very least Atari will start the season on the PUP list at best. If Morgan Burnett turns out to be the real deal, we may have seen the last of Bigby in a Packers uniform.
Perhaps that is best.

I hope not. At the very least, Bigby is a more than capable backup. And the Packers are dangerously thin at the safety position.

That definitely wasn’t my first conclusion, but it wouldn’t surprise me. There really is no depth after Burnett and there really isn’t much to loose starting Bigby on the PUP list and inserting him in week 7.
The ankle surgury is scope, which isn’t season ending. Sure he’s had chronic problems, but I haven’t heard anything to suggest this is a season or career ending injury (other than the shadiness of his report to training camp). I’m not saying I’m expecting him to be 100% when he comes back, just that I expect him to contribute once he’s back.
They say it’s just cleanup work on that ankle, so he may not miss much of the regular season. Even if he doesn’t start this year, there will be a sharp drop in skill level between him and the next guy down on the roster, so I hope he comes back. And at least for right now, I’m thinking he will be back.

Sorry I’ve been so scarce lately. Sometimes I get a little disoriented by all the technological wizardry on this site. I’m hoping I can keep up with you guys a little more as training camp continues.
When we lost Ahman Green to free agency a few years back, I thought for sure we’d never be able to find a replacement. Enter Ryan Grant. Bigby is an injury prone underperformer who chose the exact wrong time to get picky about his contract and then get injured. Peace out Atari.

Anyone remember when Atari Bigby was showboating when coming back from a previous ankle injury, and on the sidelines he was seen doing standing back flips, showing off that his ankle was fine?
Yeah, that doesn’t seem so coo in retrospect. In Fact, it prompted me to yell at my TV screen “I hope a coach chews his ass out for that garbage” at the time.
