Packer People

With free agency looming, it’s important that at this critical point in the team’s history, we bring in “Packer People.”
We have a very young team and are probably easily corruptible. Look at what happened with Javon Walker. He seemed like a fine young man. He was Greg Jennings before Greg Jennings was Greg Jennings. Greg Jennings.
But what happened with Javon? He started hanging out with folks who were definitely not Packer people. Drew Rosenhaus and Terrell Owens are not Packer people and they corrupted young Javon and now Walker is trash, in almost every way. As a person, he’s trash, and on the field, he’s trash due to injuries that might have been avoided had he been focused on football and not partying and being a media whore.
It’s probably a good idea to keep T.O. away from Greg or Ray Lewis away from A.J. Hawk. Some teams have established veteran leadership and can handle bringing in a malcontent or two. The Packers aren’t there yet, which I’m fine with.
So lets remember the cautionary tale of Javon Walker during free agency. Let’s bring in guys with heart like Donald Driver. Let’s bring in the intelligent professionals like Charles Woodson. Let’s bring in guys with perseverance like Aaron Rodgers. Let’s bring in Packer people!

“Let’s bring in the intelligent professionals like Charles Woodson.”
Amen. I LOVE me some Woodson.
I agree, of all the things that MM brought to GB I think the whole Packer People thing is the best thing yet. Sure I’d love for the team to with the Super Bowl but in all honesty if that meant us turning into the Cowboys or the Raiders I can safely say i’d rather stay an average team and be classy,
It means alot more to me when I can watch players who care about the game and want to win it all instead of guys who only want to get yards so they reach their incetives and make a few extra bucks. The guys who will cower when they go up the middle or use alligator arms when making a big catch.
I’d rather have a team full of aging Donald Drivers who will give it there all, no matter what to win.
Wait till Terrell Owens leaves the Cowboys (if he does) and many Packer fans start begging for the Packers to sign him. Stuff like that drives me nuts.
The Packers have done pretty well avoiding trashy players, dating back at least to the Holmgren era. And I agree that they are still too young to bring in a malcontent without it screwing up their team chemistry.
I remember how Javon Walker was so mature and responsible for a young player. I still can hardly believe what he turned into. It goes to show that some people are still changing a lot when they are in their early 20s. As soon as he got good, he turned into an ass. He must’ve started reading his own press clippings.
Jennings has a family and he has no intention of not playing through his contract. He’s smart and patient. He knows his payday will come.
John “Purple Drank” Jolly…………………Packer people!!!
hahahahaha.
One thing is certain, Elmo, you are not “Packer People”.
Matt Birk anyone?
Hey, I called for Matt Birk somewhere around here before.
Me too!
Well, Alex and Ironman, great minds think alike.
Franklin – I always thought the phrase was “mediocre” minds. I like your terminology much better.
How about we bring in talent that fits our scheme? Or just flat out bring in talent… because we definitely need that on this team! Outsiders can conform to our locker room leadership… the problem is that leadership left town a year ago which is part of the reason we were a mess this season.
Nope. I’m Packer People..
Just not, “Suckass Ted Thompson People”….
harhar har.
Matt Birk?.. why not just bring back Whale, Rivera, and Flannagan… hell, maybe Frank Winters is still alive!
the guys past his prime.. why in the hell would we want to sign him when hes going to be looking for big bucks…. stupidity at its finest!
Heaven forbid we surround a guy with veteran talent.
On a serious note guys. Don’t hold your breath in free agency.
Pacs, you are so lost in your Favre revisionist history. That guy wasn’t a leader in the locker room, he kept to himself and viewed himself as above the team. Get over it.
As for Birk, he would bring the verteran leadership you say is lacking. No, not past his prime either.
[...] A nice sentiment from Dale Z over at the Lounge. This, of course, references Mike McCarthy’s phrasing at his very first press conference, where he laid out a vision of acquiring ‘Packer People’ to bring to the greatest franchise in sports. And while McCarthy and Dale both reference players, it’s good to read that Dave Redding the new strength and conditioning coach, is most definitely ‘Packer People’: Raised in Nebraska, Redding was a fan of two teams as a kid – the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Green Bay Packers. He fulfilled a lifelong dream by playing for the Cornhuskers in college, and at age 56 he’s realizing another one by joining the Packers as their new strength and conditioning coordinator. [...]
