Offensive Free Agents

Instead of thinking about defensive linemen and linebackers during the first day of free agency, I got to thinking a lot about wide receivers and running backs.

I was thinking about wide receivers a lot during the last 48 hours because there are some damn good free agent receivers. My first thought was “we don’t need them.” My second thought was “I hope nobody in the North grabs them!” While I like our defensive backs, I don’t really want to be going against guys like T.J. Houshamzmadaza or Laveranues Coles.

After having a conversation with lounge lizard Ironman, I came to the conclusion that our wide receivers are pretty awesome.

TJ Hosihsoshos is the best WR in this free agent pool and when I thought about where he would be on our team, I instantly said he would be our third receiever. THAT’S how good our receivers are, that the best receiver available right now wouldn’t even crack the #2 spot on our depth chart.

After the Redskins and Haynesworth killed the defensive linemen market, making sure most of those guys will get outrageous contracts, the Detroit Lions signed running back Maurice Morris to a modest contract. When one of the better available running backs doesn’t get a huge payday, the other running backs won’t have a chance. This means Green Bay could get a running back on the cheap if they so desired.

My choice, which was mocked, was Cedric Benson. I found it funny because I’ve watched more Cedric Benson play than any of the people who thought I was crazy. My point remains that we can still get someone to back up Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson at a discount price. And once again, I hope none of those guys go to any other NFC North team.

So while we’re all thinking about the defense side of the ball, keep an eye on some of these offensive skill players who might be able to help out the team.

I dont care who the Detroit Lions have, they wont be able to win a Superbowl. Minnesota would be foolish to trade for a big name player with everything they gave up last year and the Bears are the only players we have to worry about atm. Good read.

I don’t think Moreno is worth a #9 pick. We have more pressing needs than him at 9, for sure.

That’s crazy talk with Moreno at #9. You fail to mention our biggest weakness, defensive line. I’m not a huge Ryan Grant fan, but the bottom line is he rushed for 1200 yards.
