Love it or Hate it?

As we all know there are quite a few different ways to view the state of the franchise as we head into the final weeks of the NFL draft. Here is one extreme.

I ran across this post while browsing around today, and had to read it several times to decide how I felt. It has a few things I agree with, but I am not so sure about the rest of it. I really disagree with this following paragraph.

“As I seem to document each and every year, I always like at least 4 picks in the first 3 rounds. We already have that. With our defensive transition and our crippled OL, this year I want 7 picks in the first 4 rounds. For example, trading down in the first round…sliding about 12-15 spots…grabbing another 3 & a 4. Additionally, trading Rasta Al for a 2. Or trading AK-74 for a 2nd round pick. Shaking his hand. Slapping his back. Letting him know that he’ll be a Packer HOF’er. A “we appreciate his service type of thing.” Hell, if Jerry Rice can be a Seahawk, Favre a Jet, Montana a Chief, Lott a Jett, Emmitt a Cardinal, Deion a Raven, Sapp a Raider, Seau a Patriot, Dawkins a Bronco, and now Derrick Brooks might wear another helmet? Well, I’m OK with AK-74 wearing another uniform as well if it betters the franchise. Got me?”

I’m really not OK with Kampman in any other jersey right now. Plus, at 29, Kampman is hardly watching the twilight years sneak up on him. Is he a lock for the Packer HOF today?

Now that’s the best question of them all.

Thoughts?

Wow – he is ready to ship off Kampman so quickly? We haven’t seen how he will handle the new defense, I think it’s premature to get rid of arguably our best defensive player. Take a deep breath, let’s see what we have got and work with that. You know TT will find a way to get more draft picks anyway: he always does.

  2. 29 years old does not make the Packer HOF, but when he flourishes in the 3-4, it will all but be gauranteed.

I’d rather ship out Collins since he’s whining about a contract anway.

Trading Kampman right now, as we are transitioning defenses and with the overall current state of our defense would be a very regrettable move. It seems an idea like this is looking too far into the future. A GM with vision can be a precious commodity. But winning now…this season….this very minute is a must. In order to do that and to be a legitimate contender I am convinced that AK has to be a pronounced piece of our defense.

Getting more draft picks is an idea I can certainly get behind. I could probably even be convinced that losing Harris for a 2nd rounder or multiple lower draft picks would be a good idea. But AK isn’t going anywhere.

Yes–Kampman is already pretty much a lock for the Packer Hall of Fame. He’s piled up some impressive sack totals and made the Pro Bowl a couple of times.

No–He should not be traded. He will do fine in the new defense. Plenty of players with his body type have excelled in the 3-4 OLB role.

I stopped reading when I saw that he thought he could get a 2nd Round pick for Al Harris. Delusion! Catch it!

Really stupid idea. He’s a smart guy, he’s a leader, and he’s not old yet. We need some vets on the new defense, not more babies.

I’m not sure about that #2 for Harris being delusional – have you been watching the idiotic things in FA? I’d hate to see him go, too. We need his personalitly around.

Kampmann’s only really had four major years of contribution to green bay. 2004 he barely played. Definitely not worthy of being compared to rice or favre with SF and GB.

Don’t agree with trading him either. You already have so many holes one defense and then you need two new tackles.
