KGB Exterminated
The Packers have released nine year veteran Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. In what can be described as surprising, the Packers parted ways with the long time vet and activated first round pick Justin Harrell.
The Packers have released nine year veteran Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila. In what can be described as surprising, the Packers parted ways with the long time vet and activated first round pick Justin Harrell.
“We want to thank Kabeer for his contributions to the Green Bay Packers,” general manager Ted Thompson said in a news release. “During his time here, he has been a big part of our organization and our community. We wish Kabeer and his family well.”
KGB's statement was as follows: “My nine years as a Green Bay Packer have been a blessing that is beyond words. I thank God for bringing me to this first-class organization and first-class community. During my time here, I’ve built relationships with a number of people in the Packer family. The front office executives, G.M.s, coaches, past and present players, the enormous support and administrative staff plus the greatest fans in football, all have helped make my time here truly special and I am thankful for that. It has been a very positive experience. I was able to build a family here and grow with a community that I call home. Again, I’ve been truly blessed. I don’t know what my football future holds, but one thing I’ve realized is that football is more than a game — it’s about building relationships and changing lives. One of the commitments I’ve had throughout my career has been to share the gospel of Jesus Christ and that is something that I intend on doing whether on the field or not. God bless the Green Bay Packers!”
This is indeed a surprising move to me, although I don't disagree with it in the least. We have been ragging on KGB's poor performance and high contract for several years now.
In retrospect, I'll miss the man...and his one move.
I think we all can wish the best to a class act through and through.
The big question is was this purely a money move? If not, why is Jarrett Bush here?

Is it Halloween or X-Mas?
This is great news! Of course, doing this BEFORE the season would have been better(but he was hurt, isn't there a rule about cutting ties with hurt players or something?) but ya know what, better late than never. Thompson is known for cutting the cord when he sees it ain't gonna work out. Bold move though because our defensive ends aren't very good or deep. Who is the starter now, Mike Montgomery?
Even with the cap hit we'll be smashed with for releasing him, we'll still be adding tons of money to the cap.
