Jarrett Bush: Your Starting Cornerback?

Jarrett Bush-starting cornerback.
Those are words I never thought I’d hear uttered except in the case of an injury.
Yet today, the first day of Training Camp, that is exactly what was seen. Lining up opposite Tramon Williams at corner in base defense with Charles Woodson at Safety, there was number 24.
I admit it is a scary thought to think of Bush as a starting cornerback for this team, especially considering all the issues they had in the secondary last year. But until Sam Shields decides he wants to tackle someone, or one of the younger players (Devon House, Brandain Ross, or Casey Hayward) shows enough to overtake Bush as the starter, the job may be his to lose.
Love him on special teams. On defense, that’s another story.
Jarrett Bush-starting cornerback. Get the Tylenol ready. This could be interesting.

haha. I had the exact same reaction…
I mean, day 1 of camp, but still…
Tylenol? Try something stronger. I’m going with Tequila.
That might work. Any place give discounts if bought by the case, because we’re going to need it
DANGER Will Robinson!!!
I am actually a Bush fan, I liked him at the Safety position because he plays very well with the ball in front of him. CB is another monster, lets see what he can do. Past doesnt show much, but Shields has regressed that much….
You like him enough to start at CB? Week in, week out?
Yes I think so, I know I am in the minority
You may be the only one-besides Capers
HA true. I think he has made MAJOR strides on the defensive side of the ball. He is incredibly fast and can keep up with any WR. He needs to and hopefully has been working on his ball skills. Knowing where the receiver is compared to the ball things like that. He is short so jump balls are going to be tough. Shields rook year he was amazing, but we all saw what happened last year to him.
Can’t be successful as a CB if you have no ball skills. And Bush continues to get turned in the wrong direction against WR. If he were to go up against a Megatron, Fitzgerald, or Marshall (all of whom we play this year) with the same presence he has shown in the past, Bush would get destroyed.
Maybe something has happened this off season, and the light finally went on for him, but until he can prove it, starting at CB is a scary thought for me.
I mean I agree with everything you say. We all have to see improvement. I just think he can. Hopefully he proves everyone wrong. I just think people want him to fail sometimes. I hope that Tramon would be covering the guys you mentioned. I mean I would rather have Wood in at CB. But day 1 looks like Wood is going to see alot of Safety
I will say this about Bush-at least he isnt afraid to throw his body around out there. Very different than Shields looked LY, when it appeared he would rather play patty cake with the opposing WR than actually attempt a tackle. But cant assume that Williams would be covering the 1st and Bush (or whoever the starter opposite) would cover the 2nd. Have to be ready to cover anyone. And thats part of what scares me. Could Bush do that? I’m not sure
I think they can get away with Bush this year in certain packages. You just got to hope House and/or Hayward can be a variable starter by the time Woodson retires.
But what about this year? You ready to see Bush line up every down on the outside?
[...] John at Eat More Cheese is a little concerned, Jarrett Bush: Your Starting Cornerback? [...]
Bush will do a great job covering the likes of Megatron and Fitzgerald…he’ll get tangled up in their legs as they run past him.
