Quick Hits: Colts

I was upset to see so many guys sitting down in the third game. I really expected to see the normal third game full force Packers.

Packers 59 Colts 24

Watch highlights of the game HERE.

Watch Finley’s touchdown HERE.

Quick Hits

We seriously suck opening games. I know a lot of guys are out. Still.

I heard a lot of talk about game planning for this game. Was that all just a lie?

Loved seeing Ryan Grant pound it early.

Driver. Our offense is awesome.

Raji with a nom nom (thanks Dale).

Nice job reading the reverse this week.

Shut up about the stupid rule change. Peyton Manning is a baby.

According to Jon Gruden, Dorsey Levens tore it up tonight. Hilarious.

The Packer run defense is as good as their pass defense is bad. I love hate it.

I am slightly concerned about Tramon Williams.

More screens to Jackson please. To anyone. I love them. Nice work.

Rodgers hanging in there and taking one with a throw to Finley was awesome. Ringo.

Stupid play Barnett.

When Caper dials it up, we win. Period. By the way, Mike Neal rules.

Welcome to the bigs Morgan Burnett.

Why does no one ever realize that Driver is going to make “the move?”

I was just about to say something nice about Brandon Jackson.

Sorry Nelson guys, Jones is the clear number three.

They seriously played YMCA?

Feeling better about Flynn tonight.

Harrell is getting closer and closer to getting a sack. Bustin’ Justin I’m rooting for ya.

Again, what is up with all the helmets flying off this year?

Daryn Colledge didn’t suck.

Sam Shields, this years big question. Boy, I could be wrong.

MVP

Aaron Rodgers

Bottom line, the team started slow and looked downright awesome after the first quarter. I haven’t been this excited in quite some time. Bring on the cuts. Please let Jarrett Bush be one of them.

Speaking of rules, Bob Sanders has a separate set especially for him.

Someone needs to do a highlight reel of Bob leading with the crown of his hat against the Packers.

You won’t find any of his hits from last night in the highlights at NFL.com

Peyton is quite whiny, I do however think they have a legitimate bitch. Their whole offense is predicated on him getting to the line quick and making the defense pay for dilly-dallying. If it were my team, I’d be pissed too. Fortunately it’s not, so I think it’s kinda funny.

Our pass D won’t get any worse with a healthy Mathews, Jenkins and Jones. That my friend, I can assure you. Simma down now.

While I understand the sentiment, I still have no sympathy for the Colts. I’ve seen them take cheap shots at other teams by snapping quickly – simply because they could. I’m sorry, but that’s not sportsmanship.

There’s a difference between playing a fast, no-huddle offense and forcing a penalty.

Lots of teams have had to tweak their style of play because of rule changes, and the Colts should be held to no different standard. Just look at when the wedge formation was ruled illegal on kickoff returns. Many coaches had to adjust their style of play, whether the rule made the game better or worse.

The referees have done some things to compromise on the situation, and all Manning does it roll his eyes at them. Immature.

If an Offense can catch a D with 12 men on the field that’s well within the rules and I can’t get mad at the Colts for being good at it. It’s annoying, but totally legal. Sportsmanship is over rated at the pro level. Once you start collecting paychecks, the other teams feelings should not be taken into consideration when game-planning.

You watch, because ‘The Sheriff’ is bitchin’, a compromise will be made. And soon.

It’s not matter of catching 12 men on the field… it’s a matter of giving a guy half a second to get out of bounds.

What Manning did on the second play of the game to catch the safeties off guard was a good play, and I found nothing wrong with that. It’s the cheap shots I have an issue with.

We may just have to agree to disagree, but if the Colts are willing to play with such a lack of honor, then I will not give them an ounce of sympathy.

Besides, compromises are a two-way street.

            Disagree we shall.

Why on earth would an Offense “at this level” intentionally give the D a half second to get out of bounds? It would essentially be conceding 5 yards of field position, which would essentially mean whomever is calling plays for the O is not doing their best to put their O in favorable down and distance situations. Or basically just not doing their job.

I’m with you on the sportsmanship side when teaching youngsters how to play. But these are grown men whom are getting paid. For the opposition to not take any ‘legal’ advantage because of sportsmanship, is negligent.

Dude! Since when is it un-sportsman like to be one step ahead of or quicker than the opposing team? I suppose the WR should give the CB enough time if he’s not ready? Or maybe they should create a new penalty “Offensive Hurrying”–which is essentially what has happened! Oooh I know, lets have the Offense ask the Defense if there ready before they hike. Ridiculous new rules. Fire the overwieght-grandpa-referees, require that they’re adequately athletic/physically developed, hell even put a few pads on them for god’s sake. But don’t stick’em in the backfield and dictate the pace of the game/offense and make the QB check in before hiking. Not denying Peyton is toddler-ish though, BTW.

          @Spider

I hope you realize that the reason the umpire was put in the backfield was not to slow the offense down. That’s just an externality of the situation. And I’m not saying that any rules should be in place whose primary focus is to make the offense give the defense more time. You’re putting words in my mouth that aren’t there, and you’re going to extremes to make a case.

When the umpires have gotten in the way of plays, been used as picks, and been injured, then the officiating committee has plenty of reasons to make the move they did. My only point is that I feel no sympathy towards the Colts in their complaints.

The officiating committee has already tweaked the rules in a motion to compromise… what have the Colts done in return?

Quinn Johnson smashes even Bob Sanders.
Minus the fumble – Brandon Jackson makes the best out of every run.
No Sack, no penalties! – The OL gets better.
On 28 teams in this league James Jones would be a starting WR.
    - The offense will score on everybody, everytime!

The defense needs to find a passrush, because the secondary won’t get it done!
I saw flashes of Raji and Neal today, but I think the Colts’ OL will suck this year.

More than the sacks, the penalties is a GREAT thing.

And, also, both Rodgers AND Flynn were AMAZING with the snap count. Not only in this game, but since the beggining. It was a big problem last year, the opposing DL ALWAYS knew when to start, and it made our OL struggle.

Now, it’s a big advantage, and it’s showing.

As whiny as Peyton might be, as I said on Twitter last night, the officials should not be dictating the tempo of the game. If where they stand and how they place the ball is affecting the offense that a team wants to play, it needs to be fixed. There is no reason they should have to change their offense because of that.

I think, if you can take anything from this preaseason, as well as last year, is that this statement is absolutely true.

We don’t have the personel to play vanilla and win on D. But we have the personel to allow Capers to win for us.

We’re going to be as good on D as Capers leads us. I’m not saying he needs to call exotic looks every snap, but he needs to keep offenses on their toes. I know it holds true for most Ds, but for ours it’s imperative.
