Favre To Visit Vikes

Well it's official, he's going to meet with the Vikings.

According to ESPN, Favre and Brad Childress will meet in an undisclosed location.

"Favre admitted to ESPN that he was motivated to play in 2008 largely because of his resentment toward Packers general manager Ted Thompson."

Well, fuck him then.

theres nothing official about this at all. Just because Ed Werder says it... you can assume that its actually the exact opposite. My name has more credibility in the reporting community than that walking, talking colostomy bag.

Ed Werder is the worst person on the planet. and a fucking disgrace to mustache wearing men everywhere.

Alex Tallitsch's picture

So you don't think he's going then? Or did I read that wrong? I sense a slight dislike for Werder too.

Packnic's picture

no well i mean theres a 30% chance of it happening, but it definitely does not qualify for "official status" until someone with an ounce of credibility makes the statement.
like a koala bear on crack or Bill Clinton... you know someone you can trust more than Werder.

MrBacon's picture

Well this means one thing...

Greg Jennings now has a steakhouse in Green Bay.

PackersRS's picture

Doesn't He already? That's just preposterous!

Jersey Al's picture

Well, I still have Bart Starr...

FavreFan's picture

love the broken hearts in here! pure love it! ... why can't he go to the Vikes? because he's ur childhood hero? How can you blame the guy for not wanting to go to the Vikes? put urself in his shoes.. really, just try... if u can get urself outta ur pool of tears

Asshalo's picture

I can understand why he wants to go and even respect it, but I will never cheer for it-- especially after being told REPEATEDLY this was it. Not only that, that he wanted to retire a packer.

Maybe he only acted that way to get out of the contract without starting a big dispute. Ends justify a means for revenge. He still wants to stick it to green bay. If this actaully happens this will be the turning point for A LOT of packer fans that defended him last year, myself included.

Jersey Al's picture

Your wrong about one thing - it's not Favre fans that are crying here, it's Packer fans. If you are strictly a Farve fan and he is your hero, you should be ecstatic that he wants to play some more, no matter where it is. If you are a Packer fan, no one player comes before the team. Packer fans are the ones crying because their former pro Bowl QB wants to specifically go to their rival to stick it to the Packer GM. As a Packer fan, that scenario sucks.

I just love the "undisclosed location" talk. This is a fucking football meeting, not a CIA operation or something.

Asshalo's picture

I know and all the over-hyped drama that goes along with it-- cost kornheiser his job on MNF and well-deserved.

After hearing the report I just turned off the radio. I could give two shits about the vikings roster because green bay's is what concerns me most. The vikings were on the edge of having the same record as us last year. A lot can happen in one offseason to cripple a team that looked great the previous season. The only thing they added was a receiver without really updating that aging defense. Favre doesn't have the long ball or the mobility anymore and has he been working out? This doesn't mean they're an immediate contender, but by the same token this doesn't mean he's a downgrade for the team.

Wayne Henderson's picture

Oh come on friends. Like FaveFan says above, picture yourself in his shoes. Although I'm a Green Bay Packers fan, and have been since 1970 (and will be long after Brett Favre really retires), I don't blame him for wanting to come back yet again. I can see him wanting to stick it to Ted Thompson and the rest of the management that treated him so poorly when he tried to unretire and stay a Packer last summer!

If Ted Thompson and company would have been able to swallow their pride and let Brett Favre come back and be the QB for the Packers last year, none of this nonsense would be happening right now.

If this comes to pass, I will root for the Packers to beat the Vikings (like I always do). However, things could be very interesting this year!

Get off Brett's back. He's still going to be remembered as one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, and he will be remembered as a Super Bowl winning Green Bay Packer! I'll talk more about this on my Tuning In With Wayne Henderson podcast.

Andyman's picture

I don't think it has anything to do with "swallowing their pride". Brett retired. Look at the picture for this article. He said he was done. The Packers moved on. That was that. Then suddenly, Brett gets this "itch" and decides that he wants to come back. He fully expects the Packers to drop everything they had already put in motion for months (and potentially screw them over for years to come, because I fully believe Rodgers would have been pissed had he been passed over again) and bring him back for a year, maybe two.

I love Brett Favre, I really do - don't get me wrong. I grew up watching the guy and it was heart-breaking seeing him leave the Packers the way he did, and it was heart-breaking seeing him and the Packers bicker back and forth all last year. But both sides need to learn to move on. The Packers did. Favre has not. The fact that he said last year "If I can't play for the Packers, I want to play against them" is just silly. I honestly don't care what the guy does this offseason, I am just sick of hearing about him. I will feel a little sick to my stomach if I see him marching across the field in a purple uniform when the Vikes come to town, but so be it. I am to the point that I just want him to go away because I am sick of talking about him and having to say the same shit over and over again (and listen to the same idiots spew the same shit over and over again as well)

I was thinking the exact same thing, Erik. Absolutely hi-larious.

C'mon people...Ted Thompson wanted Brett Favre out of Green Bay from Day One...

Ted's massive ego wants to win without Favre on the Packers so he can say he did it his way. Ted drove Brett out of Green Bay.

Ted said, "Brett signed with the Vikings to stick it up my ass? So what...I've had plenty of things up my ass.....and.....I like it".

Graffin's picture

Hey look the same rehashed opinion of Thompson. I haven't this argument before, great point. Very insightfull.

Toby Hump's picture

Brett Favre is a JOKE. The guy is like a man-child, throwing his toys out of the pram when he doesn't get his own way. I wouldn't mind him joining the Vikes as an F.A as much, but it's because he's doing it to get back at the Packers.

If this is true I will be booing Favre into next week. In fact I might just travel to his home and stand outside his window and boo everything he does. When he goes for a dump, im gonna boo him, when he watches himself on T.V im gonna boo him and finally when he's gettin down to the deed..... aww you bet yer ass am a boo him.

Elmo's picture

Ahhhh...go back in your pram, Toby!

Jersey Al's picture

never heard of the word "pram". Crib? Playpen? Stroller?

Profizzle's picture

Personally I hope he goes to the Vikes so we can set things straight like men in 2 games this year.

longtimefan's picture

He can go where ever he wants..I hope he doesnt get hurt, hope he has some sort of success, but ends up 7-9 or worse and the Packers end up with better record.

I wont boo him, but I wont cheer him either. I will wish a injury free season..

I am getting a laugh out of the official brett favre message board people...

I am banned there, but get emails all the time on what is being said..

They are turning against him LOL

Long time supporters of him are telling him not to do it, cuz they can not root for him in purple, one posters has even went as far as pleading for him not to go.

but then you have the the HANDFUL that do not care and are blind as hell aobut everything..Still thinking that he is the most honest person around..

ELMO yeah I know who you are now, it got leaked out...

Having fun over there with fans turning on him?

You know on the front page?

" I foresee getting the impulse to play," Favre told Sports Illustrated's Peter King. "But as good as Mike Tannenbaum has been to me, I could never bring myself to do it. I know I won't do it. If I did, I'd be putting the Jets in a tough spot, because I know they can't release me."

LIESSSSSSSSSSSS

I wont ask for my release?????????

He has done it twice now

I agree 100%%%

It will shut people up one way or the other

The thing that corns my hole about all this is that everyone is playing like TT is Mr. Innocent in this whole affair, and the "catatonic one" is far from innocent, in my view...

No one will convince me otherwise that Ted Thompson wasn't applying the pressure on Favre all along to try and get him out of GB so that he can install, "the annointed one", or Mr. 6-10...

It was a reptilian move from a scumbag, but the brainwashed ones would rather have the wool pulled over their eyes and blame it all on Favre...

Some loyal "fans" you are to THE guy who brought good things to your forgotten outpost in Green Bay.....some fans..jeesh.

Brainwashed huh?

Sort of like this one lie from Brett?

http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/31948684.html

""Favre acknowledged that the money being offered by Packers president Mark Murphy was not in exchange for him not to report to training camp. He said that has been incorrectly portrayed in some media reports.""

Not in exchange for him to stay home is what Brett said....

So Brett is saying it isnt a bribe?

Then we have this a few months later

"8/5/08: Brett told Chris Mortensen that the Packers tried to buy him off into retirement."

Yup Brett is saying it was a bribe..

Is that trying to brain wash people?

JonnyC's picture

This proves one thing.....
Brett was telling the truth about wanting to play in Green Bay and T.T. pushed him out.
How well does that sit with ALL Packer fans?

Andyman's picture

How exactly does this prove that?
