Watching the replay games of our 2008 season once again brings into focus how often we let the game slip through our fingers – literally.
I try to catch the Packers games on NFL network whenever I can and recently caught the Packers\Titans overtime loss and there is no way that should have been a loss. There were at least five passes from Kerry Collins that hit defenders in the hands or chest.
It wasn’t just that game, it was all season. As fans, we noticed it. Guys were getting reputations for having stonehands and they better be better than that next year.
A.J. Hawk is one of my favorite players on the defense but I swear nobody drops interceptions like he does. He does everything right. He makes the right reads, gets in position and does his job well. Then the ball gets thrown his way. Crap. Incomplete pass when it should have been an interception.
I remember Peprah made the most with his playing time and dropped every pass thrown his way. It was as if the opponents didn’t know who he was(can’t blame them) and thought he was on their team. It didn’t hurt them any. Apparently Peprah inherited Ahmad Carroll’s boxing gloves and wore them on the field. Is he still on the team? I hope not.
Watching these games makes me feel a little bad for Bob Sanders. Yeah he wasn’t the best but I’ll be damned if he didn’t put those guys in situations to make plays and they just dropped the ball.
On the first day of training camp, Dom Capers needs to do tackling drills and then get out the jugs machine. Getting in position is only half the battle, Packers players, you have to actually finish the play with a tackle or interception – something we failed to do last year.
