Donald Driver: Dancing Machine?

Donald Driver: Dancing Machine?

And in the news I never thought I'd see...

Donald Driver has agreed to join the cast of the upcoming season of Dancing With the Stars, set to air on ABC beginning on March 19.

Huh? Donald Driver-the dancer?

I guess I never envisioned Driver as someone who would "go Hollywood" especially while he is still an active player. Granted his smile alone is worth showing on television repeatedly, and he most definitely has the personality to succeed in this venture. But he is also someone who has generally kept a low profile during his time in Green Bay. And now he is going to be broadcast across the globe, dancing. That is the part I am struggling with.

When news of this hit the Twitterverse, a common thought as to why he was joining the cast was going on this show would help spread the word of The Donald Driver Foundation, which it undoubtedly will. Another thought is that as he enters the twilight of his career, he needed to start looking for options for the next phase of his life, the after football portion of his life. Both of these are viable explanations as to why he would join the cast. And neither help answer the simple question of "Why?" to this Packer fan/hack blogger.

Does this mean I won't watch Dancing With The Stars now that Driver will be on the show? Certainly not. I now have a reason TO watch it. Will I continue to question why he joined the cast for the forseeable future? Absolutely. Because I just don't get it.

Now this Donald Driver dance I could watch over and over

Let's examine this. Quickie a) gets to dance with a scantily clad beautiful woman with full permission of his wife. b) gets his name and face nationally known by a wide audience. c) gets his foundation and I suspect his books more well known. d) stays in great shape for the season. e) get to compete (which he loves) for a trophy.

I don't see any downside to this. Lots of upside. I like it. Of course, I love the show anyway. Let's show these clowns how Packer Nation votes so well!

You said scantily clad women-I'm there ;)

Maybe he did it because he thinks it will be fun.

Maybe. Possibly. Perhaps. Who knows?

As one of my guilty pleasures, I'm actually pretty pleased that Donald is going to be on this season. He's always been fun to watch on the field and I think the exposure is definitely going to help his various causes. As Packer fans, I think we can all support that. Plus, it was fun to call my mom early this morning and announce the news to her - as a longtime Driver & DWTS fan, she was over the moon!

Helping spread the word of his foundation is definitely a plus. Seeing Donald dance the waltz or jive? Still not so sure. But I'll be watching

I LOVE this! As anyone who watches DWTS knows (count me among them), the training is grueling. Every person who does the show says how they really work hard and get in shape. I think it'll be a fabulous workout for him. And here's my thought too...Packer Nation rocked the Campbell's Souper Bowl every year they had it and won tons of food for Wisconsin food pantries. This was done by clicking for cans. Now transfer that passion to clicking and calling for Donald to keep him on the show. I suspect DWTS has no idea what they're in for - that voting will be through the roof for this most beloved player and man!

With PackerNation behind him, I can't see any reason how Driver loses.
