Did the Packers Go Easy on Burnett?

In case you didn’t notice, Morgan Burnett played in the Family Night scrimmage. Unfortunately, besides my buddy joking that we got Darren Sharper back, I really didn’t see him at all. Did the Packers give him a pass?

It was pretty obvious that the Packers had some interest in testing out the other potential members of the secondary, but you never saw them try and test Burnett. Although he appeared to be alert, and even took a turn playing the whole field, the Packers never made an attempt to get him in a play making situation.

Perhaps this strategy is by design, slowly working the rookie into what now is most definitely going to be a starting role. But, the Packers should make sure they don’t sacrifice confidence for experience. I would have liked to have seen Morgan Burnett tested a couple of times against the first stringers in the two minute drill.

The kid is going to have to make the leap sometime, I wish it would have been on his own turf.

I’ll trust that Burnett was avoided because I only saw bits and pieces of the game. But that could have been unintentional. Teams usually use positive reinforcement to encourage younger guys, so this theory isn’t out of the question.

I didn’t get it. He wasn’t playing, or they didn’t throw near him?

And if it’s the first, who was?
