I know, it's everywhere, and guess what it's here too. Sorry, we like to weigh in when it's appropriate, Packer's news or otherwise.

On a night when the event was somehow overshadowed by Greg Bedard and Andrew Brandt, I haven't had a chance to really process anything Michael until this very moment.

Michael Jackson was an icon. Arguably Jackson was the biggest representation of stardom in the last twenty-five years. He defined youth and fame for at least a couple of generations including my own. Mrs. Packers Lounge is a huge Michael fan, and I personally spent hours and hours in front of the mirror as a young man trying to perfect the moonwalk. Someday, I might actually figure it out.

I am not blind to the other worlds that Michael Jackson lived in. He was a menace to society, he was obviously mentally unstable, and his life (and his home) was a carnival. Michael Jackson lived under a cloud of fame that that he ultimately could not handle. I don't think anyone could. It doesn't excuse him from his transgressions, and in all honesty the world may be a safer place.

What we can take away from Michael Jackson are the memories. And the undeniable truth that Michael Jackson was the largest there ever was, period.

Jackson was bigger than life and there isn't a person under the age of fifty who doesn't have a Michael story. I can tell you exactly where I was the first time I listened to a Michael Jackson album (summer school), and I will always remember exactly where I was when I heard the news of his death (writing Packer news).

Those two moments will now bookend all the recollections held within.
