I know he'd rather still be playing, but this is very well-deserved. 28/50 votes? Not too shabby.

Pretty much knew he had it locked...I'm sure Charles could really care less today, but Packer Nation is proud as hell.
Hope he has a few more solid years left in the tank.
Next season cannot come soon enough.

sir charles,

we know individual awards mean little compared to the chance to win a superbowl. we know you want a ring more than anything, and that this year's playoff loss was a difficult pill to swallow. it's hard to hear congratulations while you watch other teams on tv in january.

but congratulations nonetheless. you are the biggest reason why the transition to 3-4 went as well as it did. you hold the defense together with your instincts, your leadership, and your example. your ability and willingness to play multiple roles well made what should be a transition year defensively a statement year. you cover, you defend the run, you sack the quarterback, you grab interceptions, you cause fumbles, you direct traffic, you anticipate and you execute. you're a hard worker, and a generous community figure.

and you make your own wine.

we have no doubts that you will get your ring in green bay. keep it up.

The flexibility and athletic prowess of Charles Woodson allowed this defense to play 2 or 3 years in advance of where it really is. This is one of the best overall, well-rounded defensive performances that I've ever been witness to.

Amazing performance, class act to boot. Well deserved and thank you.

Thank you Woodson for making this one-manned defense look way better on paper than it actually was.

Packnic - when they create 'Cornerback of the Year' - Revis will win. Cheers.

No one deserves it more. Thank God for Charles Woodson - without him, we would not have been in Arizona last Sunday at all. Period.

Oh, and everything that joshy said.

Woodson really did do it the old fashion way, "he earned it" with blood, sweat, passion and raw talent. Think what the Packer season would have looked like without him! 7-9? ... (certainly no wild card game if he was missing).

When I first heard that Woodson won the award, I wasn't really that excited. (the loss still hurts)

But after listening to Chuck talk about how much this award meant to him, and how much he NEEDS to win a Super Bowl, it made me feel happy/lucky he is on our team. And more than anything else, I am happy for HIM.

Oh, and what was Chuck doing when he got the phone call informing him he was DPOY?

Woodson: "I was asleep dreaming about the Super Bowl"

How awesome is that?

Interesting comment from Chuck - "I think we went in there with the wrong mentality that we were just going to go in there and win that game." That sounds like what the team was saying happened in the early part of the season, where they felt they could win just by showing up...figured they would have gotten that out of their system due to the Buccaneer game. I guess it's just a sign of the team's youth.

Bigfog, I came into the comments section specifically to comment on that exact tidbit.
.
From what Charles Woodson stated, it sounds as though The young Green Bay Packers made the youthful mistake of believing they were a team of destiny it seems.
.
It seems to confirm a few different sports writer's concerns that the Packers were lulled into a false sense of security and overconfidence based at least in part on the cakewalk vs. ARI the week before... Something that I would have hoped the coaching staff would have addressed daily. Perhaps they did- I know when I was a younger man, you could try to advise me daily, and I wouldn't listen.
