Will Blackmon Released; Havner Reportedly To Be Cut

As per Greg Bedard's Twitter account:

S/KR Will Blackmon has been released. Imagine there's an injury settlement

Along with this comes news from Tom Silverstein that Jason Chery, Charles Dillon, Anthony Toribio, and Ronald Talley have been released as well. The Packers have reportedly asked Talley to consider joining their practice squad.

And so it begins. Keep refreshing this page for updates.

UPDATE:

Some more.

The Packers turned down multiple offers for Jason Spitz. He will be on the Final 53.

The team will release Spencer Havner if they can not find a team interested in trading for him.

Same with Evan Dieteich-Smith.

Breno Giacomini to be released.

Jarius Wynn released.

Alex Joseph released.

Zombo is in & Obiozor is out.

Per Rob Demovsky the Packers have told Nick McDonald he has a "very good chance" to make the team.

Chris Campbell has been released.

Maurice Simpkins has been released.

The team has reached an injury settlement with Allen Barbre

Chris Bryan has been cut, which should mean Masthay is the punter.

Cut or trade Havner? What's in the kool-aid?

packeraaron's picture

Tom Crabtree.

SpartaChris's picture

Surprised by Havner and Blackmon.

nerdmann's picture

Me too, but it's time for Blackmon.

Wiscokid's picture

Blackmon just can't stay healthy. Too bad but "you can't make the club if you're sittin' in the tub".

Joe's picture

Guys will there be a live blog today?

packeraaron's picture

No live blog, but we'll have all the latest as it happens.

bob's picture

DE Jarius Wynn, released

jack's picture

why would they cut havner? he can play multiple positions fairly well and is pretty valuable

Mr. Bacon's picture

They are loaded at TE.

A vet in Lee, a megastar in Finley, a project un Quarless and probably a blocker in Crab.

Not to mention they linebacker core is loaded.

Havner is just expendable.

jack's picture

well, hopefully they can trade him to a team for a decent CB or safety

Mr. Bacon's picture

Thats probably so, they want to pick someone up or a pick in teh draft.

Tarynfor12's picture

He'll be wearing Purple soon

CSS's picture

Your batting average took another hit, Hayvner to the Lions.

PackerT's picture

Giacomini and Dietrich-Smith have been released.

nerdmann's picture

Samkon Gado was cut, but the Titans I think. Nathan Vasher is available.

tommyboy's picture

Allen Barbre is gone, too - with injury settlement.

jack's picture

good. buh-bye al!

GBKoolAid's picture

Now watch Barbre go someplace else and become a Pro Bowler!

Oppy's picture

Where would that be? Pop Warner?
;)

Cuphound's picture

LOL!

jerseypackfan's picture

Hope we can trade Havner for a KR/PR/S. So long Havner, you shouldn't have gotten that DUI in the offseason.

KurtMc's picture

Suprised they didn't trade Lee. More valuable in a trade today.

Nelson isn't the returner. Who?

nerdmann's picture

Remaining Cuts, according to Nerdmann:
Graham Harrell
Quinn Johnson
DJ Clark
Charles Dillon
Chaston West
Patrick Williams
Robert Francois
Chris Bryan

tommyboy's picture

dillon's already been cut...i'm thinking johnson stays

nerd's laptop's picture

Levine needs to be cut yet.

Barring trade(s), 7 more players have to be cut. Maybe G. Harrell, West, P. Williams, Francois, Clark, Levine and one of the punters?

packeraaron's picture

Those all make sense. Just spoke to one of their agents who still hasnt heard from the team...

NickGBP's picture

Which means they probably havent been cut.....you realize they'll pretty much only call if you are being cut right?

packeraaron's picture

Yes and no. The deadline is only for the names to be submitted. They could wait to speak to them after the names have been submitted.

GBKoolAid's picture

I predict Pro Bowl for a rejuvenated Barbre in the near future.

CSS's picture

I predict barber never breaks #1 on any depth chart for any franchise...

PackerBacker's picture

That's your second Barbre comment. Do you even watch football, or are you a soccer fan who got lost. He had his chance and then some last season. Get a clue.

packeraaron's picture

Easy Backer.

Packerbacker's picture

Apologies koolaid, I've been home with a 2 year old with the flu all day. I guess I'm a little on edge.

GBKoolAid's picture

It's okay. He's totally underrated. Another ten or twenty years to train, learn the system, get in condition, he could really be a monster. It's just that the whole blocking thing gives him a wee bit of trouble, that's all.

fish's picture

I can see Barbre being a Pro Bowler. I bet he can really whip that ball down the alley.

GBKoolAid's picture

Heh heh...we're on the same page I see.

Mel's picture

guess the trade for spitz must of not been that great.. I really like Evan Dieteich-Smith figured he would have stuck..

lars's picture

What's the over/under on Justin Harrell...3 games?

hoogus's picture

Here is the final list

* P Chris Bryan
* OT Chris Campbell
* WR Jason Chery
* CB D.J. Clark
* C Evan Dietrich-Smith
* WR Charles Dillon

+ IR/Injury settlements for Blackmon and Barbre.

GBKoolAid's picture

I was hoping they were gonna trade Lumpkin for Chris Johnson or Adrian Peterson. Hmmph. I bet Ted wouldn't even attempt to make a deal like that.

Ruppert's picture

Once again Jarrett Bush dodges lightning bolt after lightning bolt and ends up with a milion-dollar-a-year job. Amazing.

Jack's picture

Is anyone else shocked that Havner was cut?
I sure am. Thought he was a lock to make the team.

Shootz's picture

There goes the last of the 60-minute men. Again.

Realistically, he wasn't high enough on the TE chart and was like the 7th LB or something, so he was expendable. I think we'll miss his ability on special teams the most. Definitely didn't see him being cut.

Chris's picture

Very surpsised (and sort of shocked because I really rooted for this versatile guy). They seem to be very fond of the other TEs (especially Crabtree and Quarless), but it also leaves the Packers with 8 LBs, a spot Havner could have filled to some degree if everything went south there with injuries. *sigh*
It shows once again that versatility isn't that highly regarded than the coaches like to make everyone to believe.

Tom Brunhart's picture

Scratching my head over Havner and Bush.
Granted, Bush looked borderline capable against the Chief's: but even a blind squirrel can find a nut!

The only thing Havner ever did was PRODUCE:
with all the depth at TE and Fullbacks, I thought Thompson could have bundled two of them and gotten a decent CB,OL, or RB?
