Why do I bother?
I get little breaks from time to time during my hectic days here in the office, and every once in a while I will click over to CNNSI.com and see what’s what in the world of football at what was once a proud beacon of writing and commentary for the more literary inclined football fan among us.
But that was then.
Now, we get people like Don Banks, all but annointing the Patriots and the Cowboys in the Super Bowl, without one suggestion that the Cowboys may, perhaps, face a tough test from the Packers along the way. I mean really, I understand, the Cowboys beat the Packers. But it was hardly a convincing win. Perhaps a convincing quarter. But not a whole game. And that was a Packers team that was at less than full strength. Nor does Banks realize that the Cowboys escape in Detroit comes against a Lions team that the Packers beat soundly not three weeks ago at the same venue. But does Mr. Banks even mention the fact that the Pack could possibly give the Cowboys a run for their money in a rematch? Of course not. It’s Pats-’Boys in his world and that’s the end of that.
I guess I shouldn’t feel too bad. This is the same guy who declared that the Saints were Super Bowl bound after their four game win streak earlier this year. The Saints then promptly lost to the Rams and the Texans, so here’s hoping Banks’ special powers of prognosticating end up blessing the Cowboys in a similar fashion.
What a loser.
