Whatever Happened To….?

Writing a blog about the Green Bay Packers can, sometimes, be a chore. I know, I know, that doesn’t seem possible. You think it’s all Twitter feeds and hot chicks, but in reality it’s a lot of work. That’s why I chuckle when Corey and I get enthusiastic emails from people who have started a ‘brand new Packer blog!’. (We get several of these a week…) What starts out as a fun little hobby soon looms over you like a what can feel like a death knell – “Gotta post something on the blog…maybe I can analyze the 3-4 defense again. No one’s done that since…yesterday.”

So needless to say, I’m never surprised when people just sort of fade away, but there are some who I really miss and wonder about, so I thought I’d take a closer look at some of my fellow bloggers who have been MIA from the Packer Blogosphere and perhaps coax them out of hibernation.

First and foremost, in my mind, is Brats and Beer. Shortly after redesigning his site, Brats and Beer Guy vanished. His last post was about the firing of the defensive staff. Was he just that upset over the loss of Bob Sanders? Come back to us B&BG.

Then, of course, there’s Jarrett Bush. I mean, the guy hasn’t posted a thing since after the second Bears game. I thought at least we’d get a little something during the whole whirlwind restricted free agent tour…nothing. Come on Blogmaster Bush, come back to us.

Next, there’s Packerholic. Eric went to every training camp practice he could and was worth his weight in gold when he would return home and give us updates. He hasn’t been seen since February when he was weighing in on Favre’s second ‘retirement’. Perhaps the ensuing drama was just too much for the poor boy to take…way to go Brent.

Finally, what in the world ever happened to PackSmack? This guy used to come over here an insult me. He took major exception to my politics. It was great fun. Now? Nothing. Not even a postcard.

Here’s hoping some of these voices re-join the fray. They are sorely missed.

There’s no question about it. Blogging takes time and effort. Especially if one is restricting oneself to a particular subject.

Rich – the irony is that if you don’t restrict your subject matter, the blog you run fails to attract a lot of people because they see it as a hodge-podge of stuff that they don’t care about with a few hidden nuggets of interesting stuff mixed in. You’re stuck choosing between writing to nobody (or relatively few people) or having a part time job that usually won’t pay particularly well.

Oooh, I feeeel the love. Packerwatch is correct, I have been real busy with my political blog which he referred to (my moniker over there is RightHooks, not Packsmack). The political season is much longer than the NFL’s and Obama’s socialist policies give me ammunition daily. This may come as a surprise, but it is a conservative blog. But we just don’t hammer liberals, we also hammer Islam. It’s great fun. And Packerwatch himself often stops by and spars for awhile…he’s a smart dude so his comments are always logical (although his political bias is somewhat wanting…)

But cheeseheadtv was kind enough to ask about my PackSmack blog, so I will oblige with an answer:

I have not written since the next-to-the last Packer game simply because it was such a painful, disappointing season. I love the Green Bay Packers and was left numb…kind of like if your wife cheated on you or something….and I haven’t read a word about the Packers since, or anything football, really. Kind of like the 1980’s all over again.

But as we get closer to the season I will start warming up again; I always do. And when the season starts, I’ll be there with shamelessly biased Packer propaganda.

And, PackerAaron, if you want to bring your skewed politics on over to RightHooks, we will gladly eat your lunch and hand you your PackerAaron shorts. :)

Your certainty that ‘all religion is a wicked lie’ is called Atheism…which is a religion because it believes, trusts, or has ‘faith in’ the idea that there is no God. Which is as arrogant and ridiculous of a proposition as there is not only on the internet, but in the universe.

So why the condition that the only way you’ll admit Islam is evil is with the corollary that Christianity/Judaism is also evil?

I’m not calling you a heretic.

In order for there to be heresy, or deviation, there needs to be a standard from which to deviate from. I see that you understand that.

And also, your ‘if I say no, I’m an idiot’ also intimates absolutes.

And I agree, there are many things we do not know.

So if there is absolute truth, there is no mandate that all belief systems have to be a ‘wicked lie.’ Therefore your requirement to throw all belief systems into the same category of ‘wicked lie,’ along with Islam is not a proper prerequisite to ‘buy’ that Islam is a wicked lie.

That’s all I was trying to get to.

Have we been to war against ‘almost every country in the world’? I think not. If a cease-fire agreement is severed, is not re-engagement the assumed reaction? Seems pretty simple.

And you brought up invasion of Muslim countries, not I.

As for wwjd, Jesus was not a political figure while on earth, nor did He involve Himself with politics; though He is a king, but not of this realm. He said that His kingdom is not of this world.

So to try to put him into a worldly national authority, such as the White House, is an unrealistic and even impossible scenario on which to speculate.

Wow. A couple of epic arguments here this week, and this one began on the topic of some guys who haven’t blogged in a while and has led to religion bashing ???

I really don’t want to get into this but PackSmack calling an entire race of a particular faith evil (regardless of your opinion of their principles and beliefs) really isn’t acceptable man. And no, Afghanistan did not have anything to do with 911. On the other hand, a percentage of Afghan natives may have had something to do with it.

PackSmack – when you take a quote from what I said, remember what it meant in context. Just because militant groups have come from and ruled Afghanistan does in no way mean that all Afghans should be tarnished with the same brush (as you said yourself, they “ENFORCED Islamic Sharia Law on the entire population”)

I am not “their pawn” as you so put it. If I was to hear a group of Muslims acting discriminatingly against all Americans because of acts they perceive to be wrong by our forces in the middle east, I would also tell them to watch what they say.

I understand your point about all of mankind being flawed and prone to sin, but when I said to “watch what you say” I was merely making the point that these kind of comments can oft be misinterpreted as racial hatred. That is something that must be understandably avoided.

On a separate note, whilst I may disagree with your political ideology, I found your blog about the nationality of Obama very interesting indeed. Kudos.

Adam, since Islam is not a race, but a religion, it wouldn’t necessarily apply to your sentence; but I understand what you mean.

Interestingly, it is not me who feels superior to others, neither does any of the teachings I believe in say so, but the ’sacred texts’ of Islam teach that Muslims are indeed superior to all other people: “[you]have been made superior to all the peoples…” (Abu Dawud Book 2, Number 0421:). It also teaches unending, universal conquest until the whole world be [Muslim]. (various verses…)

So if such attitudes, as you say, ‘must be understandably avoided,’ and yet this is what makes up some of the fundamentals of Islam what are you doing to confront such ‘racial hatred’ [Islamic Supremacism] on the part of Muslims? Just wondering.

And thanks for the kudos. Obama’s own grandmother says he was born in Kenya!!!

PackSmack – I must admit, I lack anything more than basic knowledge of Islamic texts but like most religions in the world, sacred texts can often be interpreted in many different ways.
I have no objections to the claim that “Islamic Supremacism” exists, and I have no doubt that in some way we have all felt its presence, but the extent to which it is practised domestically is something we can only guess whilst being on the outside of the religion.
In answer to your question, if I were to experience it domestically I would have no qualms in questioning it.

In a slightly cheesy conclusion (its nearly 1am here), it must be said that every religion has its extremists, but if we can learn to co-exist then we come a lot closer to peace. I do not try to argue that it doesn’t require co-operation on all sides, so do not think I argue purely in defence of Islam.

Yeah, socialized health care is the greatest. Imagine Being able to get medical attention when your ill? And without going bankrupt to do it. The only problem is when the line for prescription drugs get long because all the Americans coming north for cheaper drugs. Drug company’s make huge money off you guys.

I have a hard time believing that any religions text are accurate to the original documents, nor are the stories best thought of as factual events.
When people pick and choose literal quotes from these documents without taking into consideration the overall spirit of the document trouble is bound to happen. And these people are not limited to any one race, religion or country. Stupidity knows no borders.
Attacking any group as a whole because of the actions of a select few is detrimental to any sort resolution.

For example using 911 to paint all muslims or members of Islam or Middle East country’s as evil just allowed the Coalition of the Willing to go off on a tangent and attack a country that had nothing to do with the attack. This tangent allowed the Taliban to rebuild and extended the war in Afghanstan to almost a decade and counting.

If I had a gun I would have to lock my door so the kids couldn’t get to it. Then I would have to carry keys… Your pockets wear out faster when you have keys.. it just gets expensive.
My father in Law has a great collection though. He must have about 1000 guns of all shapes and sizes. All licensed and registered of course.
But he has a bigger house and has to lock his doors.
