Maybe this little tid-bit in Capers' coaching history piqued McCarthy's interest:
Tom Coughlin hired him as coordinator in 1999. Under Dick Jauron, the Jaguars had ranked 23rd and 25th the previous two seasons using a 4-3.In its first season in a 3-4, Jacksonville went 14-2 and led the NFL in defense.

Maybe Butler was right, "the 3-4 is the easiest defense to teach." It sure seems that the change is not as impossible to make as many of the critics seem to think. Hearing out takes of Capers press conference yesterday gives me confidence that we don't have to take that step back in order to move ahead in the future.
As far as I'm concerned we have the right coach in place. It is now TT's job to get the defensive skill level up to NFL standards.
