Watch Out for Lumpkin

I'll admit, I didn't think Kregg Lumpkin had a chance to make the roster back in August. But reviewing the Lions game last night, and going back and watching him in preseason action, I'm starting to think he's the second best back on the Packers roster. He has shown great vision, an ability to drive the pile with sheer determination, some soft hands in the screen game and, most surprisingly, at least a rudimentary ability to pass protect.

Now, is he the next Terrell Davis? Hardly. But right now, he is clearly better than Brandon Jackson and if Ryan Grant doesn't watch it, he could soon be splitting carries with Lumpkin even when he returns to full health. McCarthy stated in his press conference today that Lumpkin had "absolutely" earned more playing time with his performance yesterday. Should be interesting to see how the Packers handle the rotation next Sunday night.

As I noted in previous posts, he is a terrific back. I watched him at UGA here in my backyard & was thrilled when the Pack signed him. His challenge is staying healthy, which is a lot easier if you're not an every down back
