Three Things to Watch: Miami Dolphins at Jacksonville Jaguars

NFL writer Andrew Garda gives you the low down on what to look for in the preseason game between the Miami Dolphins and Jacksonville Jaguars.

While the Miami Dolphins have already kicked off preseason with a 24-20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, the Jacksonville Jaguars are just getting started.

Here are three things to keep an eye on when the teams meet Friday night at 7:30pm EST.

1) Are we coming to the close of the Blaine Gabbert tenure in Jacksonville. Sure it's only the third year, but Gabbert has yet to fully show he can fulfill the promise he had coming out of Missouri. The team didn't draft a quarterback this Spring, though admittedly it wasn't a great class for it and they do have Chad Henne who filled in well when Gabbert went down with an injury last season. Gabbert has to start showing some improvement and while he may not get a ton of snaps, he should at least produce something against a secondary which has question marks.

2) Meanwhile the Dolphins' offensive line continued to be a concern against Dallas. The Jaguars don't possess an unreal pass rush, but it's good enough to give Jonathan Martin and Dallas Thomas fits if they continue to play inconsistently. All the weapons this team got for quarterback Ryan Tannehill won't matter if he can't stay upright enough to use them.

3) With Justin Blackmon suspended, the onus of the passing offense falls largely on Cecil Shorts. However, there are several other intriguing prospects, including rookie Ace Sanders, who has had a very good camp. With Blackmon out, there is certainly room for Sanders to carve out a role in this offense, and that could start Friday night.
