The Quiet Before The Storm?

Apparently that's what it feels like at 1265 Lombardi, according to the Director of Public Relations:

Awful quiet here today. Learned long ago that often means something is about to happen (though that doesn't mean I know something).

Obviously, the Pack is about to trade for Julius Peppers.

;)

Well that would wake the dead.

If so, it would mean TT has really gone personnel crazy this year!

Either that, or the Packers sign Brett Favre to a one day contract. One of those seems a bit more likely than the other.

It was funny, but I honestly don't know if that would be good. I mean, I'm not that stupid, Peppers would make any team better, but considering the amount of cash we would have to spend on him, the possible high future picks that we would loose on a trade, and the fact that he would have to learn to play in a different position, like Kampman is doing right now, and that we just drafted CM3, don't make it a good deal, IMO.

PackersRS - I'm in complete agreement, and have written about most of the points you bring up above. I just know there are many Packer fans who would be in heaven if it happened...

The issue with alot of PackFans is that they are conditioned by the Favre Fiasco to want 'headline' acquisitions. Obtaining Peppers would be a 'headline'.

Besides having to pay an arm & a leg for Peppers, what I don't like about him is that he's 29 years old. Face it, when you are close to 30 you are close to being on the downward side of your career. Now if Peppers were 26 or maybe 27 then GB might view him entirely different.

I vote against Peppers at that cost.

As exciting as that would be, I am glad that we won't acquire Peppers. The draft picks would be costly. Not only would it take a huge contact, but the guys already on the team would likely be put off by an outsider getting a max contract. PLUS, we already have one All-Pro DE that is making the transition to OLB. I don't think we need a second, at least at that cost. Between Matthews and Thompson and Poppinga, we can likely find a second OLB that is productive if not spectacular.

Peppers? Obviously? I have to believe you're trying to generate some debate here. Ok, I'll fall for it. The price for Peppers is going to be prohibitive in terms of players, current or future. Not to mention the Cap.

I was for an effort to sign Peppers before we saw the direction TT took in the draft. The OLB position is the least of the Packer worries at this point. ILB and DE are still real issues on the board. Peppers offers no help there.

A footnote: The Jason Hunter is gone. Wasn't this the guy we heard would be great with his size and speed? I see Dom Capers hand in more and more defensive decisions. That's a good thing.

Aaron, since this is the offseason, it might be an instructive to create an "Emoticons of Aaron" post. Since your CheeseheadTv goodwill trips to Green Bay and The Draft, I would imagine you have some new readers. ;)
