The Pro Bowl

Obviously, Woodson and Collins are more than deserving, and congrats to them both. But how about Aaron Rodgers? I can't say enough about how impressed I am with this kid.

This is the first of, I think, many, many more Pro Bowl nods to come. And the fact that he looks to be the long-time starter in Green Bay is just flabbergasting when you look at teams like the Miami Dolphins or Denver Broncos who are STILL looking to replace Marino and Elway. (Yes, Cutler was supposed to be that guy in Denver - but two great statistical years does not an heir-apparent make...)  Packer fans are going to be unbelievably spoiled, more than they already are, with stellar play at the quarterback position for over at least two decades and most likely longer.

As for the snubs - well, the only two that really get me going are Hawk over Barnett as an alternate, which is absurd, and Witten over Finley as the backup Tight End. I know Witten is a good player, and I know he's leagues better than Finley as a blocker - and I know Finley has many Pro Bowls in his future. But anyone who watched the Packers' offense sputter for weeks after Finley went out of the Cleveland game and then instantly come to life the moment he returned, can tell you that he is a special player.

But I digress. The Pro Bowl is a nice dog and pony show...but that's all it is. None of it matters (well, except to players' agents) and it's mostly an empty exercise. But it's always nice to see Packers players recognized.

They won't be able to play in it anyway.

So true. Consider this: 30 of the Packers 90 years in the league have been with a HOF QB at the helm. One third! Now Rodgers. We are spoiled. And oh so lucky.

Go Rodgers, congrats. I felt like Grant should have made it. 1 fumble all year, in week 2. 10 td.

Rodgers should have been in last year instead of Manning

I don't have a problem with Witten getting selected over Finley. Witten has 88 receptions and 954 yards. Finley: 51, 642.

Witten is deserving, yes even over Finley. I was most surprised by Vernon Davis. He has the numbers, i'm just surprised he got them. Hawk? I don't get it.

Yeah, I think Finley has many Pro Bowls to come, but is not deserving over Witten and Davis this year. Hawk as alternate blew my mind, and so did Clifton as alternate. But I'm certainly not upset about it, just thought it was a little strange. Grant as alternate seemed about right. He had a good, solid year, nice to see him get a little recognition.

History holds sway with the voters. Nothing more than that. It takes a supreme effort to displace a veteran.

Is nobody mad that Brian Orakpo made it to the probowl and Clay Matthews didnt? Its stupid! Orakpo has 1 more sack (4 against the sorry Raiders) and has 8 less tackles. Not to mention, Clay's played in way bigger games than Orakpo. for shame voters...for shame...

It quite frankly (and predictably) made me angry when I saw all the Viqueens recognized. The two O line players were absurd, and one could argue that PIckett was more deserving than K Williiams.

I think Grant should have gone instead of D. Williams, Matthews over Orakpo, and Martin over the Vikings S.Teams guy.

The one shining bright spot in the Queenies' over-recognition is that at least they'll all be free the week before the Super Bowl to go.... :)

Barnett definitely deserves a Pro-Bowl bid! He has been a stud for the entire year!

But I also think Matthews deserved the bid as well!! But both he and Finley have years to get in!

My problem with the Pro-Bowl is that it is a popularity contest. Too many players get voted it solely on popularity contests (especially when you think about guys that get 10 Pro-Bowl nominations in a row...)

Clifton as alternate makes sense...when you consider McKinnie is the starter!

You really would take Finley over Brent Celek this year?

Of course, Brent won't go to the pro bowl any way, but how unbelievably awesome would it be if Brent was selected to back up Rodgers in the pro bowl! I can't stop laughing just thinking about it.

Some LOL from KSK (you know, I actually like his show suggestion):

"They released the Pro Bowl rosters last night. Now, you don’t give a shit about the Pro Bowl and neither do I. And yet… for no reason at all… I care deeply about whether or not people from my team are voted onto the thing, and get crazy pissed when someone from my team has been snubbed (even though the snubbed player will probably end up playing in the game as an alternate). What? Cedric Benson didn’t make the squad? OUTRAGEOUS!!!! No Brent Celek? THAT’S FUCKED!
-
I have no idea why I feel this way. No watches the Pro Bowl, and I’m not the one who stands to gain a substantial bonus if said player makes the Pro Bowl. Yet, for whatever reason, I find myself interested in Pro Bowl voting. They should replace the game itself with a live voting meeting, complete with phone calls from fans and shit like that. I’d watch it for five hours. I really would.
-
(By the way, eight players from my favorite team {vikes} made the Pro Bowl this year, and there’s no way Bryant McKinnie deserved to be on that team. At all. He’s fucking terrible.)
-
Anyway, your Meast of the Week is Charles Woodson of the Packers."
