Ted Speaks
By PackerAaron
...and as usual, doesn't say a whole lot. These are notes from both his time at the podium and his 20 mins or so out in the hall with the local beat guys.
- The biggest thing, to me, was that he acknowledged that they are working toward a long-term deal for Nick Collins, but that there are obviously 'differences of opinion' on the safety's worth. He also had what has got to be the quote of the Combine so far when he said: "The cake's not done till it's done" - thanks Ted...
- Said he thought Kampman was making a good transition before he got hurt.
- As per usual, he declined to talk about anything specific, esp as it pertains to contracts and the upcoming uncapped year. He was asked about operating 'as though' the team would be under a cap in 2010, but declined to say one way or another.
- Was asked about Tebow and spread offense quarterbacks in general. Said too many people were writting Tebow off and that too much was made of the transition from the spread to a pro offense in general.
- Talked 3-4 OLBs, said he doesn't look for certain height, weight etc. Also said it's very difficult to project the DEs that could play standing up.
On a side note - and yes, snark is in full-effect here - the local television guys ask the DUMBEST questions. One guy wasted about 5 mins trying to get Ted to talk about how he goes about "finding a punter" - to which Ted replied "Looking at them" Thanks, local tv guy. That's 5 mins of my life I'll never get back.
More to come...

Hmm, I don't think Thompson said nothing. He said he working on a long term deal with Collins and has talked to him about it. That is great progress, since last year they had not talked at all. Thompson did not say how many dollars they are apart, but why would he?
He also said he liked Kampman at OLB. That is big. He could say nothing at all. I think Thompson said quite a bit today....all good news.

If Thompson doesn't go into great depth with charming personality when answering questions, then most take that as saying nothing whether its right or wrong.

I tend to agree with how he goes about answering questions & don't get why people get all bent out of shape that he doesn't bend over to reporters to spill the beans. His job is to assemble & maintain talent for the Green Bay Packers, not win a popularity contest or let the fans know all the details of what is going on behind closed doors. Keep doing what you're doing, Ted.

From Bedard's notes, it appears he didn't say he looks for ideal height/weights but that they probably exist. He simply looks for guys who can play the game and project well to rather than get caught up in measurables.
Not trying to be a dick, it's no small task to take on everything by yourself.
