Ted Gonna Ted: Gresham Signs With Arizona
The Packers reportedly never talked contract with Gresham prior to his signing with the Cardinals.

In the end, Ted gonna Ted.
First there was this from Rob Demovsky earlier this afternoon:
Early indications are the #Packers are not talking contract with TE Jermaine Gresham, who visited yesterday.

Then there was this Friday evening:
#AZCardinals agree to terms on a one-year deal with veteran TE Jermaine Gresham. http://t.co/CB0wALRnWR pic.twitter.com/BIuWsd1bze

Safe to say, Ted and the Packers were content to take a look, express interest, but not much else. It will be interesting to see the terms of the deal once they're reported to see what kind of commitment Arizona made to the veteran.
It would appear the Packers will stand pat with the tight ends they currently have on the roster heading into camp.

Back injury likely had a lot to do with it.

Yeah, it's possible the doctors saw him and said no thanks...

Colt Lyerla better than Jermaine Gresham and the 6 scrub TE's on the current roster. I guess the packers don't want a good TE this year...

Yeah, there's probably a whiteboard in a board room at 1265 that says...
TE Strategy
- Be Terrible
- Don't bring back Colt
- Don't sign TE's fresh off back surgery
- take team skeet shooting to trick Quarless in being a asshole with a gun in Miami.
I'm sure that's how it went down.

Sorry Chaka, Colt Lyera can't stop smoking crack and drinking right now so no, he's not better than the 6 scrubs on the current roster. Most likely he's better than the 6 TE's at the local High School.

Colt is one example of hundreds, maybe thousands of great athletes over the years that just don't get it. "You have to get your mind right" says the warden from Cool hand Luke.

So much love for a guy who has proven nothing but the ability to be an idiot? Am I missing something?

They brought him in for a visit. They had interest and I'm sure there was some clarity on what the agent was seeking for his client before the visit. (Especially considering he had prior offers from other teams per reports) Agents and teams don't waste each other's time if the terms the agent is seeking isn't in the ballpark of what the team is willing to pay.
It's more likely they just didn't like what they saw at the visit and said "no thanks". His times were slow. He was out of shape. His attitude was poor. He was too dumb to answer basic questions about blocking schemes. The medical staff nixed his health. We certainly are not privy to that information.

There's every possibility Gresham's agent had him visit for leverage purposes.

Tightwad Ted's negotiating strategy on FA's is always the same.
TT: Interested in a 1-year deal at league minimum?
Gresham: Nope.
TT: OK, bye.

There are reasons why the team that drafted him with a #1 pick chose not to resign him.

The obvious red flag is the back injury. He had surgery to repair a herniated disc in March.
It goes beyond that. Some Bengals coaches wanted nothing to do with his return.
Reportedly he is not particularly tough when it comes to being hurt. He sits out when others would play. He has only played in all 16 games in a season once, although he has never missed more than two games.
He has a reputation for presnap penalties. He was flagged for six penalties in 2014, but he has been flagged for a total of 38 in his career, including those that were declined. 2013 was his worst season with 11 penalties.
He has had some issues with fumbles. he has fumbled 11 times in his five-year career, including three times each of the past two seasons.
He is not known as having the best hands. Pro Football Focus credits him with 28 dropped passes in his career, with as many as 10 in a single season. However, he only dropped one pass in 2014.
While Gresham's stats look decent, he has been viewed as a disappointment.
