TE Dominique Dafney among initial cuts to get roster to 85

OL George Moore, LB Ellis Brooks and RB BJ Baylor will be released as well.

The Packers, along with every other NFL team, need to bring their roster to a maximum of 85 players as of 4pm est this afternoon in the first of three roster reductions leading up to the regular season.

Yesterday, the Green Bay released center Cole Schneider and cornerback Donte Vaughn, both with injury designations.

Today, the Packers are set to release a number of players that will ensure they are at or below the 85 man roster limit.

The team will release running back BJ Baylor, linebacker Ellis Brooks, offensive lineman George Moore and, perhaps in a bit of a surprise, tight end Dominique Dafney.

Dafney appeared in five games with two starts as a rookie for the Packers in 2020, posting two catches for 26 yards and a touchdown against the Bears, along with two tackles on special teams.

The former undrafted free agent dealt with injuries last season and indeed had been dealing with a knee injury for most of the past week.

DDafney will definitely land on a roster. Good luck, good health and GPG!

I'm disappointed about Dafney, especially that he was among the first cuts. I thought he was a useful player to have around. The current knee injury probably had something to do with it.

He might be back further down the road when he's healthy.

It shows that the Packers feel pretty good about Lewis-Tonyan-Deguara. And they should..

Baylor is a player. If I had a team like Jacksonville, I’d put road graders in front of him and give him the ball.
