Surviving Sunday: Packers news, notes and links for the football deprived

Brett Favre is going into the NFL Hall of Fame. And apparently it took all of six seconds to make it official.

In the last year, Favre made his return to Green Bay, was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame, got his number retired at Lambeau Field and is now heading to the NFL Hall of Fame.

I wish I had something more insightful to say, but Favre's year speaks for itself. It's great to have Favre back in the Packers family and it'll be nice to see him take his rightful spot in Canton, OH, in the Fall.

Surviving Sunday is a bit light on content this week because 1) it's been a long week and 2) I had about 1,000 words written, but 800 of them mysteriously disappeared. Technology....sigh.....(well, it was probably user error, but I'm going to blame technology).

Packers news, notes and links

  • Randall Cobb thinks a microphone battery may have injured his lung and knocked him out the divisional playoff loss to Arizona. If that's true, I demand an immediate re-do of the game so the Packers can win it and take their rightful spot in the Super Bowl.
  • Pro Football Focus detailed what they think the Packers biggest offseason needs are. Can't say I disagree with the list. Inside linebacker, tight end and edge rusher are what I'd go after as well. Will Ted Thompson use free agency to fill any of those needs? Probably not.
  • Speaking of edge rushers, can the Packers count on another productive season from Julius Peppers in 2016? Brian Carriveau at 247 sports thinks they can, and should.
  • A sad story from the New York Times this week detailing how Packers safety Willie Wood can't remember making the most important play of Super Bowl I.

Non-Packers links and other nonsense

  • Cancer update: I began chemotherapy this week. The side effects weren't that bad, but I'm not going to brag too much because who knows what might happen as treatments continue. My latest Caring Bridge update cane be read here.
  • Super Bowl prediction: Panthers 27, Broncos 16. My conference title game predictions were about as wrong as they could be, so take my Super Bowl prediction for what it's worth.

I find it incredibly sad that Mr. Wood cannot remember his play in SBI. I also find it incredibly dumb that a microphone pack - not part of the regulation uniform - caused, what could have been, a very tragic injury to our Cobb.
Dear NFL: you have a lot of work to do.
As for Brett Favre AND Kevin Greene? YAY!!!
p.s. prayers continuing for you Adam! Stay strong!!

Good to hear you are starting chemo Adam. Keep fighting!

Regarding the PFF list: If TT gets off his high horse, there are ILBs and TEs out there in FA that could REALLY help the Pack in coming seasons.

IMO the best play is to move CM3 back to OLB. Sign Trevathan for a reasonable deal, draft a mid round ILB and let Barrington and Ryan duke it out for the other starting spot.

Ditto TE - sign Ladarius Green or one of the Colts TEs. Then draft a HWS prospect late to develop.

The top priority in the draft needs to be OLB, OG and DT (assuming both Raji and Guion are gone).

Ted - you need to start helping your coach and QB out more in ALL areas of team building.

Still, if there's an upgrade that might come relatively inexpensively via FA, it would be at ILB. TE and pass rushers with real upside or proven track records would be pricey.

TE would be more pricey than ILB for sure. The Colts guys were both pretty good individually, but never got huge stats because they pilfered each others playing time. So that will bring their price down. Green has so much potential it's ridiculous. The little he's done in the past 3 years won't keep the lid on his price - he'll be the top name on the market :(

I'm pretty sure the Packers could either get Henry in Round 1 or Hooper in Round 2. Maybe that's a little early for Henry or Hooper, (some Mocks actually have Henry going earlier), my point is TT NEEDS to come out of the 1st or 2nd round with one of those TE's. Henry could be a player that would be able to start and contribute week one.

He didn't draft Kendricks because he felt 30 was too early but obviously it wasn't. Randell had a great rookie season but so did Casey Hayward. Meanwhile the Packers still are struggling at ILB since 2012 and TE since 2013 and frankly, I DON'T trust TT to get it done anymore.

We know he won't sign Green from the Chargers or Fleener or Allen from the Colts. He might sign Perillo but that's about it. McCarthy finally said what EVERYBODY at 1265 Lombardi has wanted to say, we've had Rodgers and Favre and you have one trip in 11 years!!!!!!! Pull your heard our of your arse Ted and build a winner. I don't know about you but I'd rather have a few more Lombardi's and then be down a year or two than win the NFC North and be One and Done every season. Oops, that ended this year!

Keep kicking ass Adam, you're in my Prayers everyday!

I'm mostly with you. I'd rather have a promising CB than a promising ILB.

But other than that, yeah. If Ted doesn't walk into next year with a significantly better ILB and TE units, it's time for him to retire.

Not that I'm not appreciative of the last 10 years under TT. But it's about championships and TT/MM have only been to 1 big game and 3 NFC CGs in that time.

With 2 elite QBs, that's simply not good enough.

Henry and Hooper have both mocked to GB by Walter Football in various versions, Henry found 1, Hooper round 2.

Love Ladarius Green, but he's had multiple concussions I believe, at least one for sure.

Don't see why money should be a problem. If it solves a need immediately why not. I'm sick of waiting years for a development project to fill holes that have been there for too long. Get a real TE and ILB now. Use draft for future needs at OL, DL etc

Dude, I gave you a break when you came back because your post was actually good. You were the first person to mention Hunter Henry and Sheldon Rankins. Keep sane and you'd be a good part of the conversation

Adam - best wishes as you continue your treatments. Sad news about Willie Wood. I remember well watching Willie make that play. He was one of my favorite Packers at the time and he remains the best safety that I have seen play for the Packers. Thanks, Since '61

Keep fighting man. I believe this game will be closer than you do though....28 24 denver. If that is true about cobb with the obsession over player safety nobody should be micd up again, and I feel completely ripped off.
