Surgery Being Considered for Greg Jennings

Surgery is reportedly being considered for Packers wide receiver Greg Jennings and his injured groin.

UPDATE: A decision has been made by Jennings to have surgery on what is being called an abdominal tear. From CBS Sports...

From the Twitter account of ESPN's Adam Schefter:

McCarthy presumably told Schein during his weekly interview on satellite radio's SiriusXM NFL Radio channel.

Jennings has missed the past three games with a groin injury that dates back to the season opener when it was originally aggravated.

The Packers head coach acknowledged on Wednesday that Jennings was receiving a second medical opinion after his groin was taking longer to heal than expected.

McCarthy will hold a press conference later today, which he'll likely address Jennings' situation.

UPDATE:

This tweet from Adam Schein includes an important qualifier, "not season ending."

In addition to the possibility of losing Jennings for the rest of the year (and maybe the rest of his career) Nelson is having some hammy problems along with D.J. Williams and Finley still has the shoulder problem. Suddenly, the receiving corps looks vulnerable. Also Borel is on something called practice squad injured. We need to get two more wins and get some rest on the bye.

Only one game before the Bye. Saw the Jaguars live last week and they did not scare me at all.

Maybe not season ending, but Packer career ending. He'll be gone as a free agent now. He's been injured way too much to be kept and Cobb taking up all his touches.

Trade bait if healthy, but doubtful at this point.

I've heard that it's possibly a sports hernia now, which sometimes masks itself as a groin injury. If he gets surgery for that, it's a relatively short recovery period, probably the standard 4-6 weeks with the occasional quick healer coming back faster.

And Brian, I guess you've heard the same, as I just saw over to the right what you said on Twitter.

Jennings is the total package at WR, one that runs terrific patterns inside and can get deep as well, most can do only one or the other. His catch in the Super Bowl to keep the last drive alive was unbelievable under traffic. My guess is he is back as a franchised tag next year, can't see a long term deal in the works, Shake his hand and thank him for superior production and being a great team mate when he leaves.

Franchise tag next year for a WR would cost the Packers about $10 million, can't see that happening with the up-front hits they're likely to take on their other marque players they must sign.

Surgery on Tuesday.

I'm no doctor, but how does a month of a groin injury turn into an abdominal tear?

I guess my question is... Why the hell didn't they catch this S-E-V-E-N weeks ago when he first aggravated it? Or at least three weeks ago? Dude could've been on the mend this whole time. Not handled well with the limited info I have.

Offer him a low end contract yesterday, if they're interested in keeping him at all... We won't get a better rate.

That's kind of the gist of my question too.
