Super Bowl LII Win Would Be Worth the Wait for Packers

We learned that Super Bowl LII would be held in Minneapolis back in May of 2014.  For some Green Bay Packers fans, it was a "where were you when. . ?" moment.  Since then, many have been dreaming of their Packers not only winning another championship but doing it in enemy territory.

U.S. Bank Stadium will be the site of the next Big Game in February 2018.  It's also the Minnesota Vikings' new home.  The Packers helped christen the new digs last season and unfortunately weren't able to spoil the day.  I'm sure most of us would gladly trade in that disappointment for the ultimate high.

I know I just wrote about how hard it is for teams to win Super Bowls.  I meant every word and certainly know this after nearly 30 years of Packers fandom.  But it's Monday and thought I'd throw out some inspiration for the week.  After all, Packers training camp opens later this week.

The Packers have a good chance of playing late into January so getting to a Super Bowl is far from a pipe dream.  But there's this thing called the football gods that they likely have to fight.  It seems too perfect that the Packers finally add another trophy to the case in one of their most hostile road venues, doesn't it?

A little personal story here since I live in the Twin Cities.  Last fall, I was at a hospitality industry forum where the NFL answered questions from various hotels and venues in town that would be participating in and benefiting from the Super Bowl.  When the Q & A session began, one of the first questions was, and I quote, "can you please make sure the Packers don't make it?".  Someone in the audience immediately chimed in with "Nope!" (any guesses who it was?)

Vikings fans are still doing the usual this time of year, which is trying to convince themselves that this season will be better than last.  They're ironing their #4 Favre jerseys and standing in front of the mirror practicing their interactions with Packers fans this season.  Like comedians looking for their next big laugher, they're practicing and working on new barbs to toss out.  Packers fans already have theirs: pointing to the trophy case, holding up four fingers for every ring they already have or pretending to kick a field goal.

So on top of the usual fretting over the Packers walking away with another division championship and the Vikings not making the postseason, Vikes fans now have to stress over their worst nightmare: the Packers winning a championship in their city.

Oh, it's real, Vikings fans.  Very real.  It's far from a guarantee that the Pack reach Super Bowl LII but until it's officially not possible, it's so very, very possible.

These Mike McCarthy-led Packers have gotten some sweet revenge in enemy territory over the years.  They finally got the Cowboys in Dallas last season.  There was the wild card win in Philadelphia after the 2010 season and that wasn't even close to the highlight that season.  The NFC championship win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field added some tonnage to the bragging rights the Packers and their fans have in that rivalry.

Unlike after that game, where the Packers took the celebration off the field and into the locker room, there will be no shortage of pomp and circumstance on the U.S. Bank turf should the Packers achieve the ultimate this season.  Enduring everything that they have since their last win in 2010 might be a little easier on our minds and hearts if this team can find a way to fight all of the forces of the natural and supernatural worlds.

Dream big Packers fans and may every win this season strike a little more fear into Vikings fans. . .

Viking fans are a sad bunch , I stopped reading other Packer sites because of the way Viking fans out number the Packer fans , there would be nothing better than winning a Lombardi in their house , except maybe beating them and causing them to miss the post season on the way to the Super Bowl.

"The Packers have a good chance of playing late into January so getting to a Super Bowl is far from a pipe dream. But there's this thing called the football gods that they likely have to fight."

Jason is seems the Packers have been fighting the "Football Gods" EVERY season if you ask me. There always seems to be "Something" which happens either just before the playoffs like Philbins sons death in 2011 or Rodgers calf injury in 2014. OR the seemingly normal rash of injuries that hit and take entire position groups out like the WR in 2015 or the secondary and RB position in 2016.

THIS IS THE YEAR the Football Gods finally smile down on Green Bay. Even the year they did win the SB they had 15 players on IR. For once this Packers team will remain mostly healthy throughout the year. The Packers are due. Injuries have become so common we just have come to accept them. But not this year. The Packers can hopefully avoid the injury bug. If they do this team can play AND beat anyone in in the NFL, including the retooled NE Patriots.

The Football Gods owe us for once. If the Gods bless us with health, the nightmare for Vikings fans could become very real. The Green Bay Packers will hoist Lombardi Trophy #5, Championship #14 in THEIR stadium before they ever win even one!

The only " Football God's " the Packers fight every season are the one's that they themselves and some fans anoint has being such or as close to as possible.
They are the God's that keep beating us and as long as the oils of anointing are easily poured upon them, the Rings will not be found.

I disagree. I find rings around my bathtub all the time.

Nary a doubt that you don't.

In the mid 80's the Bears routinely kicked the crap out of GB. I really hated the Bears then, considered them a huge rival. But it "seemed to me" (no, I cannot offer any PROOF) that Chi probably didn't give GB a second thought back then.
That's sorta how I look at MN now.

OR!
How about Super Bowl 51 AND 52?
Gosh with this kind of brilliance, GB should hire me TODAY. Move over, TT!

Of course Packer fans will "take" a Super Bowl win whenever they can get one. But most fans will still feel like there were some missed opportunities left on the table as well.

Winning the SB in Dallas was great. My brother, who likes the team of whatever city he's living in, was at the game and couldn't stomach a Packers' victory.

He also tells me, constantly, "Dez made that catch!"
