Super Bowl Becomes Homecoming For Peprah

Packers safety Charlie Peprah, a native of North Texas, used to cheer on the Dallas Cowboys in his youth before becoming a member of the Green and Gold.

DALLAS – For some, B.J. Raji's interception return in the NFC Championship game conjured up memories of former Dallas Cowboy Leon Lett as a 300-plus pounder who made himself vulnerable to a turnover in a meaningful game.

Of course, Raji never fumbled, scored the decisive touchdown and went on to become a legend in Packers lore, but for one member of the Green Bay Packers, memories of Leon Lett hit a little too close to home.

Packers safety Charlie Peprah is a native of North Texas, played his high school ball at Plano East High School and grew up a Cowboys fan, host to the Packers and the Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.

“I was a huge Cowboys fan," said Peprah. "I remember coming to the Thanksgiving Game in 1993 when they played the Dolphins and Leon Lett slid into the ball. I actually cried that game. That’s how big of a Cowboys fan I was. My friends and I talked about me playing in a Cowboys uniform but I will take the green and yellow any day.”

Just how many Packers fans fondly recall attending games at Lambeau Field in their youth, the same goes for Peprah taking in games at the old Cowboys Stadium in Irving, Texas.

“I went to about five games," said Peprah. "I would sit in nosebleeds. Going to any NFL game was huge for me though. It was huge for me to see those guys play in person.”

As a senior in high school, Peprah has 1,500 all-purpose yards and six 100-yard rushing games for Plano East, which actually had the opportunity to play some games at the home of the Cowboys.

“We played our high school playoffs there," said Peprah. "For three-years in high school, when I was on the varsity squad, we played there. That was huge for me. I remember one time they were getting ready to film ‘Any Given Sunday’ and the locker room was painted for the Dallas Knights. That was pretty neat but it will definitely be great to play in this stadium as well.”

The Super Bowl is a homecoming for Peprah, however the Cowboys Stadium has taken on a whole new look since the last time Peprah played there.

The Packers have hosted the Cowboys in Green Bay, but Tuesday's Media Day is the first time they've been to Jerry Jones' billion-dollar stadium in Arlington.

“I’ve never been here before," said Peprah. "I am still trying to take this whole place in. It’s crazy. I saw where the players come in and the fans are right there. They can literally touch you when you are walking to the field. There shouldn’t be a bad seat in the house with that huge screen being up there too.”

Had a good feeling about this guy after his huge hit in the preseason game against, who was it, Indy? Of course, being in an anybody but Bush mode helps.
