Sunday Report: Packers Practice Goes Overtime

The Packers practiced 20 minutes longer than usual in their final practice in Green Bay before leaving for Dallas on Monday.

In their last day of preparation in Green Bay before leaving for Dallas tomorrow, the Packers practiced longer than usual.

"Good practice today," said head coach Mike McCarthy. "We actually stayed on the field 20 minutes longer than a normal Friday structured practice for us."

Sunday's practice was typical of what the Packers usually do on a Friday before a Sunday game.

There's still work to be done once the Packers arrive in North Texas, but 90 to 95% of their preparation is done for the upcoming Super Bowl against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"I wanted to get as much work done as I possibly could today," said McCarthy. "We saved a piece of our installation still for Dallas, so we still have work that needs to be done."

McCarthy indicated that the on-field portions of practice will be shorter than usual at Southern Methodist University while in Dallas.

"The biggest thing that will be different for us, the practice, we won’t be on the field as long," said McCarthy. "We’ve taken the jog-through component of our practice and moved it to the hotel. So when we hit the stadium field, we’ll go right into practice. There won’t be a jog-through and so forth, so we’ll be operating probably 15, 25, depending on the day, 20 minutes shorter."

This is good... The coach seems VERY confident and he knows his team better then any of us.. So this is a good thing.. A very good thing

Granted I'm a homer but I'll be darned if I can find a reason why the Packers could lose this thing.

They're more talented on both sides of the ball. Pit. is operating with a makeshift OL. They'll be playing on a fast track. The Packers are healthy. They're confident. They're battle tested. and they're peaking (especially AR).

WF,

I couldn't agree with you more. The Steeler D could thwart our offense for awhile, but their offense won't gash us for big chunks. Our D is too stout.

I generally have a good vibe about the game.

Agree! Gotta love the fact McCarthy is speaking out about putting together a string of solid practices. I wonder if he had to let Barnett know practice was running a little later though. I'd hate for him to be left out!

I can't believe this selfish clown is becoming a distraction to his own damn team when they're trying to focus on the biggest game of their lives

I actually feel sorry for Barnett he has been playing for this team for a while and not being able to play in the superbowl has to be tough on him. But I don't think it's a distraction for this team too good for that GO PACK GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I was a current Packer I'd be doing everything in my power to make sure I was on this team next year. Barnett in particular. Take a pay cut or re-negotiate your contract. Anything to make sure you are on a team that will consistently compete.for a Superbowl.

It's too bad we won't get a Holly breakdown for this game. NOT trying to be Holly here, but I'm hoping Clifton is ready to roll, and that the coaches had a little extra time to work with Bulaga. Besides the tackles, causes for concern: (1) Packers won't have a fully healthy and and fully capable OLB opposite CM3, and (2) MM could get out-coached in terms of in game adjustments. This win does not feel as ineveitable to me as it did in `97, and that game was a lot closer than I expected. And let's not talk about expectations v. reality when it comes to the Denver Super Bowl.

That said, I'm looking forward to the fast track - I think the offense is much better on a solid field. I'm looking forward to watching Packers D-backs v. Steelers wideouts, and vice versa.

I'm expecting a win, I just hope everyone's head is in the game, and not the hoopla or their shampoo deals. Seems to me like the biggest problem against Denver was that some guys were not ready to sell out to win that game. I don't think that will be a problem, but we'll see.

Interesting. A shortend practice is commented by McC as "good practice, we ran through it very fast" and a longer one is praised too ;-)
Sort of a win-win situation .. I wonder why anyone bothers with the time the Packers practice each day anyway.
I am still more confident than last week against the Bears that the Packers win, but McC usually makes sure we see a nail biter in the end, so I am prepared.
