Stop The Press: Demovsky Is Right

A lot of conflicting thoughts on Al Harris in the Blogosphere today. McGinn and Tallitsch are concerned about Harris not having any interceptions or big plays in camp. Rob Demovsky, (Hat Tip to Railbird) however, tells a different story in his report on yesterday's practices.

Although I can't believe I'm about to type it, Demovsky is right and McGinn is off.

People waiting on Al Harris to pull in a lot of interceptions and 'big plays' are going to be waiting a long time. What they won't be waiting on is stellar cornerback play. It's just Harris' misfortune that he is paired with one of the most gifted corners in the league, a corner who is a master at baiting quarterbacks into thinking guys are open and then swooping in and picking the ball off. Harris is just not that kind of player.

What Harris DOES do is cover guys. Yes, he has his trouble with the big, physical receivers. But more often than not, when the quarterback looks his way, Harris has his man or, as the case may be his zone, on lock down. Thus no passes are thrown his way, hence no interceptions.

What a week. Favre is a Viking and I agree with Demovsky.

I am in need of a stiff drink.

That's exactly what I said to Brian and Alex... Well, about Harris at least.

I`m sorry when I think of Al Harris I dont think of INT`s. His 19 picks his entire career says it all.

Yeah, Harris never gets alot of INTs. I think his struggles against big WRs was mainly due to being man to man on them. So the zone might even help him out in that dept.

We will be singing the praises of Al Harris in good ole fashioned man press coverage when we play Minnescrota.
