Sterling Sharpe Explains It All For You

It’s easy to forget just how amazingly talented Sterling Sharpe was back when he played for the Green Bay Packers. His subsequent television career, with all the attendant blovation it has unleashed on NFL Network viewers, may have clouded the memories of fans, but the guy could play. Also, he was one of the best I’ve ever seen at setting up defenders and catching the ball away from his body, then muscling through tackles during the run after the catch.
I was reminded of this by this great video that I saw via Matt Waldman over at the Rookie Scouting Report and his recent post on wide receiver technique. The whole thing is simply required reading for any football junkie.
Here’s Sharpe talking to a young Dez Bryant and others about various techniques used at the wide receiver position.

I wonder if Sharpe would ever consider coaching the Packers receivers. From watching him on NFL network, you can tell he still has a soft spot for Green Bay.
I don’t easily forget how talented Sharpe was.
He was near pace or on pace to match Jerry Rice numbers.
Sterling Sharpe was hands down- HANDS DOWN- the best Packers WR of my lifetime. And I’ll accept the words of the older generations and agree he’s the second best Packer WR of all time.
The single best receiver I’ve ever seen (early 90′s on).
That includes Jerry Rice.
Sterling was just amazing. Dude doesn’t get nearly as much respect as he should. The only thing keeping him out of the HOF is lack of longevity.
