Sign Jennings Now. No, Yesterday...

God bless Greg Bedard. Leave it to the him to stir the pot as the players are clearing out their lockers for the offseason.

Bedard asked Greg Jennings about the possibility of a hold out heading into 2009, even though he'll be under contract until the end of next season.

Jennings response:

I'm here to play football, the business will take care of itself. If it comes down to it, I'm not a type that wants to hold out. Now, if that comes to happening, I'm not going to sit here and say I won't do it but I'm about 99.9% sure that I won't be doing any of that. That's just not me. But, again, you never know what happens but I don't see it happening at all.

That, my friends, scares the hell out of me, but I don't see it coming to anything remotely like what the Packers went through with Ryan Grant. (Or Javon Walker for that matter) They approached Jennings earlier in the year and Jennings politely declined to talk about his contract with the team until the offseason, no doubt thinking he would only drive his value up by producing big time over the course of the season.

Well, ok, it's now the offseason and Jennings is scheduled to make $530,000 next year. Obviously, that is ridiculous. And unlike Grant, Jennings has a pretty extensive body of work to use as a barganing chip. The man is star. The Packers should pay him like one, and the sooner the better.

Heard Jennings earlier today and I think he'd be receptive. He certainly has earned that consideration. Do it now.

Way to go Bedard - let's give #85 something to think about now that football is done! TT, sign him as your first priority!

TT, Sign him yesterday. We need to keep offensive weapons that consistently produce like Greg Jennings. Don't let him slip away like some greats in the past i.e. Javon Walker.

I wouldn't call Javon Walker great at anything.

TT will sign him, not to worry. The real issue is Donald Driver. Does he really have two more good seasons in him. Right now, he's climbing the ladder to be another Marvin Harrison, but can he last that long? Still, we would have (5-set):Jennings, Jones, Nelson, Martin and a TE(Lee). If Finley can shut up and let his play do the talking, then we may have an option to bring back the Tiger Set(Chmura/Jackson). The only WR I'm not sold on is Ruvell. He's killed more drives this season than any other. And, guess who's gonna ask Jennings about all the drops he's had this season. He had 3, against a winless team, yesterday. These guys have had all season to get used to Rodgers throwing the ball harder than Favre. Even DD dropped an easy one. That nonsense just has to stop; or we replace the Wideouts Coach.

Jennings will get good money, as long as his Agent isn't greedy. I'm all for making it incentive laden, as they all should be, across the board. He's done his Rookie tenure, now be grateful.

IPB - Why they don't use Martin down in the red-zone like they did last year, I'll never know - but you're right, he's nothing special.

As for Driver, I don't see any reason he doesn't play another two even three years. Did you see the move and the speed on that 71 yard TD? That's not going away any time soon.

No worries! Aaron, you were stressed when Rodgers got a new agent, you were thinking the worst. This is where TT will come through with the cashola. CTPACK was right, he will be rewarded for this hard work and his clean record.

Donald Driver keeps himself in ridiculous shape. 2, 3, 4 years is not out of the realm of possibility.

Not worried about TT letting him go, or letting Jennings hit free agency. Not at all.

Amen, Franklin. I don't know of too many receivers in the NFL who can go over the middle, absorb the hits and obivous pain, then bounce up and get back in the game. DD is one of a kind and we must keep him. His presence compliments Jennings and together they are an awesome team. And don't think Jennings doesn't understand it.

Jennings is a rare one, there is no doubt about that and I am confident TT will lock him up. That has been a major part of his his MO all along. Pass on the high risk unknowns and lock in the proven young talent that you have developed. I also love Donald Driver and while the majority or TT haters are confident he will replace DD with another of "his guys" I don't think so. I think TT recognizes Driver's importance to this team and knows he still ahs a few years left in him. I think Driver stays as well. I just wish he would knock off the all the crap after every catch. I guess if I had to choose I would take the antics over the lack of performance but he never used to do that. I wonder why he started all of a sudden
