This had to happen! Now I hope they bring in someone brand new and not part of the staff last year.

The only exception would be if you really think Zook can help but this year with him they were worse.

Have to get better on ST. Have to.

I agree 100%. It's time to stop with the half-measures and address the situation with full force.

The obvious pipe dream move for me would be Dave Toub. I thought it was a huge missed opportunity when he was available after Lovie Smith and his staff were let go in Chicago. He's currently in Kansas City, so who knows what his contract situation is like.

Glad it wasn't a hasty firing, but it was time for a change. That unit was abysmal this past season.

Agree ---- classless but .... typical CHTV.

With Slocum the scapegoat this year & possibly Dom this year or next, the Pack only need to jettison MM (probably after 2015) to get AR back into the SB.
It will happen.

Face it ... AR/MM/TT looks more & more like Favre/Sherman..... It's unfortunate.

CHTV has always used the RIP logo more as a joke than as a memorial. The fact that is was used for MM's brother's death was on oversight on our part.

People need to chill out. It's a graphic.

Too bad it was at least 1 year too late and it took giving up a trip to the Super Bowl for Slocum to get canned.

Whomever they bring is will find Slocum did. No one with speed to return kicks. late round or un-drafteds morons who are too stupid to coach (Bostick) and guys who just make bone head plays without coaching

Changing the coach makes little difference if the players he has to coach suck.

I hear many Conference Championship Game teams suffer from way too many sucky players. But I might have been in Bizarro World when I heard it. Which is to say on a Viking fan board looking for a few good laughs.

I am frequently in Chicago and deal with Bear fans regularly. They have the good sense to not poke fun at the Packers' collapse in light of what their team did in the regular season. I mean how pathetic would that be? Who would have thunk I'd look to Bears fans to find common sense?

I'm floored. I didn't think McCarthy would do it. Of course, I was floored when we developed a running game, too. I guess it's not that Mike doesn't do anything I want him to. He just makes me wait so long that I think he'll never do it.

They had the perfect screen set up against Seattle. Then Rodgers rolled his ankle just when he released it. Just part of playing on one leg. Lacy had blockers and lots of room to run.

exactly right.

Look at how many plays in that game that just went wrong. That was another that I forgot about. Perfectly timed screen pass, and it would have had a huge gain. But Rodgers rolls his ankle as he throws the ball..

In the life of football, how many times has a QB rolled his ankle as he throws a simple pass less then 5 yards from him, in which he couldn't complete? I'm guessing a very few.

I have seen so many people that want to blame McCarthy or whoever for this game, but in reality its just the combination of bad luck and mistakes.

Did McCarthy have some bad play calls, sure. Did Rodgers throw some bad passes, yes. Those things happen in games. The things that you can't have happen is the special teams mistakes. Those are the plays that gave life to the Seahawks.

Honestly I think this decision was made before the nfc championship game. That was just the nail in the coffin.

7 blocked FG's is something you can't have happen, amongst other things.

A side note I wonder if Masthay losing his confidence also contributed to Slocum's downfall. During his tenure he will have had 2 kickers lose confidence in themselves. I don't know if it was anything to do with Slocum but there seems to be to big of a coincidence to say he isn't at least partially to be blamed.

I'm with you, RC.

What happened in the NFC CG was just piling on with the case to fire Slocum. That case was proven conclusively by the 7 blocked kicks and 32nd rank overall.

This was badly needed and Mike finally does the right thing. Unfortunately McCarthy is still not a top tier coach.

Get a real OC so Mike can pay attention to all aspects of the game during the game. Like, why is CM not in the game now and why are we playing cover zero on the key play of OT, and so on.

This makes statement #1 in the off season...we will improve and be better on ST in 2015. MM has made statements like this before (running game, safety position). Next he needs to say, "We will fix the middle LB position." Finally, he needs to say, "We will never ever take our foot off the gas as long as I am coach. Our defense and our offense will be the highest scoring in the league in 2015. Our secondary will never slide again after an INT."

With Slocum gone hopefully Hawk and Jones both gone, Sitton and Lang both fit with better back up OL (Barclay).I would hope the 53 does not contain two players the coaches have no intention of using but are too scared to put them in the practice squad.Bradford and Janis should both be playing next season, but if after pre-season there are more players like them stubbed toes all round and put them on IR. All this being said I am very optimistic about special teams next season.

The first step to next years super bowl, now we say goodbye to Hawk, and Jones, with that in mind who is available in the draft (most likely second round via trading out of the first) to be the stud middle linebacker we've been missing? and are there any free agents available who could step in (in TT price range of course).

The ILB position is pretty thin in both the FA market and the draft which kind of sucks. The positive is the position can only improve considering how bad B. Jones and Hawk were this year.

I would have to think a combination of Joe Thomas, Barrington, Palmer and a draft pick or two at ILB would be at worst a slight upgrade over Jones & Hawk.

Their bigger problem is finding the players to execute on special teams. I can't understand how the Vikings have a guy who is elusive, very fast and can return a kick all the way, every day. His one and only job and were screwing with Mica Hyde, Cobb (ya lets get him hurt), Dujuan Harris.
Maybe Slocum isn't the problem.
The old adage "I've discovered the real enemy and it was me".
Dom can't make Datone J and Perry quicker and faster. He can't go out and get a book end Peppers to shore up the pass rush but we seem to blame him for it. A lot of that on this team.

Who gets fired for not firing Slocum earlier?

D has been much better with CM playing inside/outside. Get another guy who can do that.

Maybe we can switch Raji to the OL so we can push the line and pick up 1 yd?

Maybe we should switch MM to be an offense coach if he likes calling plays more than winning?

One of the headline video's on Packers.com is MM saying 2015 team will not bear the burden of 2014.
!Q$@$@%$_)$!@_)(%. I'm ready to can him now too for that attitude. They better carry that burden. Who else should!!!!! All I want to hear at every press conference is "Anything less than a SB win is a failure. We will not fail!"

Addendum - Has MM has shown he can learn and change? His statement I quoted above does not give me confidence. That's not the attitude I want to see. Not sure about Capers either. Switching CM to ILB might have saved the season. Did it take 3 years to figure that something needs to be done at ILB? And going back to rushing 3 on 3rd and long without playing man coverage and extras!@#!@$!@# IMO, Packers had a great team in 2014. Are they being helped or held back by coaches?

So, apparently I am in the minority that doesn't think McCarthy should be fired. I agree he made mistakes. But no coach is perfect. He had his team plays away from being in the Super Bowl. When I say plays, I mean, plays in which if they do one thing differently, they win the game.

I guess people forgot that McCarthy was one of the few coaches that actually out coached Belichek. After that game what were you saying about McCarthy?

To all the people that want McCarthy fired, would you be saying the same thing if Bostick catches the onside kick and they win?
