Seven Packers Players, Including Morgan Burnett, to Miss Titans Game

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced seven players will not play in Saturday's preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans.

The seven players are headlined by safety Morgan Burnett, an incumbent starter on the Packers defense.

Joining Burnett are tackle Don Barclay (torn ACL), wide receiver Jared Abbrederis (torn ACL), tight end Colt Lyerla (knee), defensive linemen Jerel Worthy (lower back) and Letroy Guion (hamstring) and safety Tanner Miller (ankle).

Not only will they not be playing on Saturday, they will not even make the trip with the rest of the team.

Burnett is dealing with a strained oblique muscle that forced him to miss practice on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.

For the time being, Burnett's injury has opened the door to Micah Hyde and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix as the first-string tandem in the Green Bay secondary, although McCarthy still views Burnett as a starter.

"Morgan's going through a situation right now medically, and he'll come back from it, and he'll jump right back in there," said McCarthy.

McCarthy also said he's hopeful that Burnett will be able to return next week.

Don't leave Richardson out of the S battle! Richardson is athletic and can make all the plays the other guys can. The main thing for him is being consistent. Sometimes he's a little late reacting, but he very well could be our best run-defending safety.

About the guys that we will be missing:
Abby: His situation sucks. Big loss. He's going to IR I'm sure.
Barclay: See above.
Burnett: No big deal. We'll get to see more of the other guys. He's being called day-to-day, but I have a feeling he will be out for awhile yet. He'll be back before Week 1, though.
Lyerla: He is a moron that wasn't going to make the roster anyways. He might not have even made the PS at the rate he was going. He will likely be put on IR, which will be perfect for him. Maybe he'll learn not to hurdle others during practice on IR.
Worthy: I'm not giving up on him quite yet, but he's on the verge of getting cut. If he can't get healthy then I'm guessing he'll be put on IR and get one more shot, but who knows. Back injuries don't go away so I wouldn't mind moving on from him.
Guion: MM did not give much of an endorsement of him. I doubt he even makes the 75.
Miller: Camp body. No loss.

I see Hill will be coming back. Good for him. He needs to come back or he won't make the 75.

"Back injuries don't go away so I wouldn't mind moving on from him."

Better move on from Sitton too then, I guess. :-)

I'm all for seeing more of Richardson and Dix.

Lyerla may now realize that he is not so uber-athletic that he can get away with that shit all of the time at this level. I think that was his problem in college: too much talent to see all of the work he needed to do to become great.

If you noticed, Sitton's back injury flared back up in Week 13. Back injuries really don't go away, but there are many things that go into moving on. Worthy has never proven himself while Sitton has. Sitton missed 0 games while Worthy missed a lot of games. Since Sitton has not missed any games due to his back injury it's safe to assume that his injury is much more minor. It's something he can play through. Worthy can't play through his major back injury. And who are we going to move onto? An injured Don Barclay? Obviously there has to be someone behind that player, and there is nobody behind Sitton while there are plenty of other DL's. So lets not be ridiculous about it and take that comment out of context.

I gave up on Worthy when I read the pre draft analysis of him was he often took plays off and went missing in games. I believe he is continuing that posture with the Packers. Sure is injured a lot for a guy who never plays and when he does, you never hear his name mentioned.
