Saban\'s 3-4
By PackerAaron
Was doing some digging online and found this from back when Nick Saban was just starting as Miami's head coach. It's a simplistic but effective breakdown of the 3-4 hybrid that Saban and Capers installed and ran. I don't think Capers will stick strictly to this blueprint, but it's enlightening in regards to how Capers might try to use Kampman.

Aaron,
Thanks for doing the research on this.
What did I learn? Well, a 3-4 by any other name is -- Wait no it's not. The way I understood the diagrams is, shifting a traditional 4-3 and using two key players you can accomplish much of the 3-4's strength while maintaining existing talent.
That tells me that GB will definetely need to pick up two key players for the defense. A Zack Thomas type linebacker and a killer over center. As far as the LB, GB doesn't have one of those (high priority FA). The guy who is to occupy the center and a guard could be Pickett. However, his injury did limit him last year, he is getting up in age, and he really isn't the prototype for that position. I think GB needs to go out and get one of these (FA if one is there, high draft pick if not). In addition they need to find two above average performers to fill in existing holes (mid-level FA or high draft).
I'm beginning to feel more comfortable with this change and feel with some careful instruction it is likely that the defense will be better than they were in 2008. I didn't say great, but better. That should definetely help improve the record.

I admire the effort, but that article was almost un-readable, it was so poorly written.

Aaron, be honest, does "digging online" mean you took copied and pasted the story I found and posted on Footballguys? I don't care at all, but I'm wondering. Seems logical.

scrump - pardon Corey. He's a bit of a hot head, but once you get to know him, you love him. :)
In all honesty, I don't remember you posting it over at FBG. I seriously did see it when doing a Google search (which is the 'real' digging online) Would always give attribution to a fellow Football Guy. ;)
