I'm as guilty as anyone of tearing apart Ted Thompson's decisions in regards to assembling players on the offensive side of the ball. And I realize everyone loves having something to criticize. But today's Mike Vandermuase column in the Green Bay Press Gazette in response to last night's horrific showing by the starting offense is a bit much.
Yes, they looked putrid. Yes, they couldn't get a first down. Yes, the running game looked abysmal. This is all true. However, the Pittsburgh Steelers defense was more to blame than the offense. Last week they held the New Orleans Saints starters without a first down as well. And this was the number one offense in the NFL last year. So let's all calm down, shall we? There was no true game planning, the Packers ran very vanilla plays, and they were facing what, in my estimation, will be one of the best defenses in the league this year.
Now, if the starters struggle the same way next week against Seattle, I'll start to think about being worried...
