Rodgers Set To Return Against Giants

Jason Wilde of ESPN Milwaukee reports that quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been cleared to resume practicing tomorrow and will make his return to the starting lineup Sunday against the Giants.

From Jason Wilde:

The text message was brief and to the point, and the only thing easier to read Tuesday evening was the excitement coming from Aaron Rodgers’ iPhone.

I’m baaaaaaacckkkk.

Yes, after seeing his 46-game consecutive starts streak (including playoffs) snapped when he was inactive for Sunday night’s 31-27 loss to the New England Patriots because of a concussion suffered Dec. 12 at Detroit, the Green Bay Packers quarterback said he has passed all the requisite cognitive tests and been cleared by both team physician Dr. John Gray and an independent neurologist, clearing the way for him to return to action for Sunday’s must-win game against the New York Giants at Lambeau Field.

This is obviously great news, but the Packers need to do a much better job against the Giants' formidable front four than they did against the Lions. In that game, the Packers offensive line was completely outplayed and left Rodgers and backup Matt Flynn running for their lives.

Protecting Rodgers needs to be priority number one for McCarthy and company and an attempt at replicating the run-heavy gameplan the Packers used against the Patriots would be a good place to start. Obviously, the Giants' front will be much stouter than the injury-depleted Patriots were on Sunday night, but McCarthy simply must get some mileage out of his inconsistent running game to help protect his franchise quarterback.

Besides the run game, I hope MM uses a good dose of screen, swing, and shovel passes and more quick hitting WCO routes to also neutralize the Giants front four.

McCarthy and company put together a beautiful game plan against the Patriots. Here's to hoping he can keep it going the rest of the way.

Now about that clock management...

I fear what the Giant's pass rush could do to Rodgers noggin' this week.

Forget knockin' on wood for luck...I'll be choppin'.

Time to go get your playoff spot Pack.

What are the chances the Packers and the Bears could face each other back to back weeks?

"the Packers need to do a much better job against the Giants' formidable front four than they did against the Lions."

Totally agree. I think Detroit's front four may be playing better than any in the league at this point, so hopefully that asswhoopin woke our O-line up knowing Tuck, Osi and the backflip-kid are coming to town... at least I F'ing hope it served as a wake-up call!?!?

OH yeah... Aaron, S-L-I-D-E next time bud. Admire the heart, but that extra 3 yards probably just cost us the last 2 games and the division. Big picture guy, big picture.

It's time for MM to dial up another sound game plan. I am confident he'll do so. However, I don't expect another lead-off onside kickoff. Do, however, look for a couple unusual twists.
