Rodgers Advances to Semi-Finals of Madden ’13 Cover Vote

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is one round closer to securing his place on the cover of Madden 2013.
Rodgers defeated Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice by a 55-45 margin in the third round of voting, pushing the reigning NFL MVP into the semi-finals of what has become a yearly football tradition.
Rodgers moves on to face Detroit Lions receiver Calvin Johnson, who defeated New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski by a large margin, in the first round of the final four. Voting for the semi-finals will last from April 11 to next Wednesday, April 18.
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis make up the other half of the bracket. The finals will take place the week after the semi-finals finish, from April 18-25.
Rodgers has also defeated Cleveland Browns cornerback Joe Haden and Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch during the voting tournament.
A year ago, Rodgers was upset by Browns running back Peyton Hillis, who eventually went on to win the cover.
You can vote for the Madden ’13 cover over at ESPN’s Sportsnation.

I think Cam is deserving of the cover this year…and whatever jinx may come of it.
Am I the only one who thinks the voting is rigged? I mean, Peyton Hillis? I understand that Browns fans are passionate, but Peyton Hillis?
There was a campaign led last year to essentially vote the worst possible player to the cover.
Tim Tebow was in the contest, IIRC.
By “worst” they meant “least marketable.”
I just want to play Madden 13′ could care less who wins. GO PACK GO
Better not be Packer fans voting for him.
GBP 4 LIFE
Come on Fitz, there is no such thing as “Jinx”. Rodgers deserves to win this thing.
ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE? How did Hillis do last year (just the latest example). It’s real kid. Be afraid, be very afraid!
Some bad Mojo with that cover. Rumor has it madden sold his soul to the devil to get that hit game, in return the devil was gonna screw everybody who graced the cover…
K. I made that up. But the trend is worrisome. While not the case every year, the vast majority have had shitty years. Whether it be injury or just suckiness.
Well, we could sacrifice a chicken or something to ward of the evil spirits. Maybe something pre-sacrificed from KFC. Yeah…that’s the ticket.
Lol. We could do that.
I’m with you Fitz, I don’t care about some stupid cover of a game I will probably never play. I DON’T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. I’m voting for Calvin as many times as I can find a way to.
So. Stupid. To take a “curse” like this seriously. Hillis was the only player injured last season? It’s incredible to take an honor from one of the most class-act players in the league, no matter your personal feelings on the importance of the award, out of fear of a boogey man.
Well, looks like I should stop going to Brewer games, then. They’ve won ONE that I’ve been to. Guess I’m the jinx. Sorry guys. Whatever’s best for the team. Simply incredible.
Hey, DDPB, how dare you tell me what to worry about! If #12 snaps an ankle next year, well… May god have mercy on your soul. Good day sir. I said good day.
Oh, and yes, stop going to brewers games. Thanks. Everyone.
Detroiters are voting for Rodgers so Calvin doesn’t get the Madden curse
NOOOOO!!!! Everyone vote for Someone other than ARod!! No curse needed here
What a great year to feature Megatron on the cover.
I don’t believe in “The Curse,” but I’m also aware there’s a chance I could be wrong. Not willing to take it, for the small vote I have in the matter.
Here’s the thing. Guys who are on the cover are usually coming off some of their best seasons, so it’s understandable that they regress to the mean, sometimes even substantially. And Hillis was a one year wonder who is clearly an outlier to that point.
Look at the injuries. It’s not just regression. Guys who have been healthy their whole career get the cover, then BLAMMO! The very next day, hit by a bus… Pretty sure that happened.
If you are skeptical about the curse go to this hack web-site (just kidding Aaron) and review the history of the curse: http://bleacherreport.com/arti.....over-curse
Vote for Megatron early and often.
Rodgers has repeatedly said that it’s been a dream of his since he was a kid to be on the cover of Madden. He has proven throughout his career that he will suceed no matter what is put in front of him. He will do the same with a nonexistant curse hanging over his head. He has helped make many of our dreams come true by giving us a quarterback we can be proud of and another Superbowl win. The very least we can do is help him achieve one of his dreams as well.
REAL fans of the Packers and Rodgers, especially, would vote for him. Period.
LOL. Super douchey route to take.
How’s that for gratitude? Rodgers’ dream to be on the cover since he was a child destroyed again by his own fans because they believe in a frickin’ curse. I don’t mean to rant, but this is Idiocracy.
We REAL fans just know what’s best for him. And the team.
Now I’m done.
For those you criticizing those of us who don’t want ARod to get the curse cover keep in mind if you’ve ever done any of the following you completely lose credibility:
1.) Crossed your fingers
2.) Knocked on wood.
3.) Tossed a coin in a fountain to make a wish.
4.) Wished on a falling star.
5.) Wished for anything for that matter.
6.) Wore your lucky jersey, sat in your lucky chair or any of the million game rituals people perform.
7.) Took heed to an astrology column.
8.) Carried a lucky rabbits foot, or appointed anything “lucky”.
9.) Believe in Big-foot, Loch-Ness monstor or werewolves.
10.) Well you get the idea, there are superstitions about a billion things.
Superstitions may be irrational but it does give comfort in controlling situations we really don’t have control over. There are very few people in the world who don’t subscribe to some kind of superstition, so get off your high horse and keep Arod off the cover.
problem is, as dat der packer-backer said, this affects people other than ourselves.
So #12 doesn’t get his Madden cover. Boo F’ING Hoo. He can snuggle with his MVP award or the Lombardi, or maybe take a look at his ring to console himself! You know, the things that matter…
I can just see his induction speech “my only regret was I didn’t ever get
Doesn’t change the fact that he’s not getting something he wants and deserves because of his own fans’ superstition.
Does he really “deserve” it though? What did he ever do to you? I personally like ARod, therefore I will vote for anyone else… Just having his best interests in mind. I don’t think he deserves it at all… He deserved the MVP, not a hex.
He thinks he deserves. That’s the point. I couldn’t care less either way.
I hear ya RS… just being a dick. But I really don’t want him on it.
Yes.
Calvin was head and shoulders the best WR in the league. Way more of a gap between him and the next WR, whereas Brees was right behind Rodgers. He deserves it more. Vote for him.
Sound logic. I will!
