Rodgers Advances to Final 8 of Madden '13 Cover Vote

Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has advanced to the final eight of the Madden 2013 cover vote, easily defeating Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch in the round of 16 by a 64-36 voting margin. Rodgers will face Ravens running back Ray Rice, who snuck by Saints quarterback Drew Brees with 51 percent of the vote, in round three of the voting.

Voting for the third round starts today and last through April 11.

If Rodgers beats Rice, he'll take on either Lions receiver Calvin Johnson or Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in the semi-finals.

On the other side of the bracket, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton takes on Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald and 49ers linebacker Patrick Willis faces Giants receiver Victor Cruz.

Last year, the Browns' Peyton Hillis upset Rodgers on his way to securing cover.

You can place your vote in the bracket through SportsNation at ESPN.

Time to set aside this curse nonsense and get this done for our boy.

I am the opposite, why risk it? But if anyone can defy the "curse" it would be #12.

The Madden curse is real.

Yep, I will be voting daily to make sure AR is not the cursed one. Sorry if anyone doesn't like it, I'm not taking any chances.

Gronk will make the cover. But this round I am voting for Aaron.

Vote against Rodgers unless you want to read 10 years from now how Rodgers was among the best NFL QB's until he appeared on the Madden cover. Do want to risk that?

Besides it's just the cover of a stupid video game. Who gives a fudge.

Aaron Rodgers does. Hence people who are sensical fans that give a crap say let's do this for our boy. He's said that it's something he would love to happen.

If A-Rod needs his ego stroked so bad, then I'll actually start rooting for him not to get the cover for reasons other than superstitions. Seems he's on the same path as his prima donna predecessor.

As for the rest of you who discount the cover jink as silly nonsense (and I understand that), keep your perspective in mind the next time you sit in your lucky chair, pray to the football gods, wear a special item of Packers clothing for luck or any other variation of game rituals you have done in the past. It all falls under the same category.

Interesting how you put your own personal perspective in someone else's shoes. Why would that be him needing to stroke his ego? He considers it an honor. Doesn't matter your feelings on video games or how big a deal it is to you. Some people enjoy getting a small trophy at the end of dart league season. Some don't. No one is less or more for what makes them happy. This system of voting is in place, and while it's nothing like a super bowl ring, it's something. And we have an opportunity to vote for our guy to win it, and it's something he has said he'd love to win.
To sit here and say it's an egotystical remark is very confounding to me. I don't understand the cynical approach to this. People will do what they want. I don't take people who believe in "curses" seriously, but people will do what they want. Chill out, dude. It's an award. He rewards us with great play. Us. The fans. Some want to reward him with a vote, others want to say, sorry, but I fear the boogey-man and will not. Whatever.

Peyton Hillis believes in the curse NOW. So why risk it..I will not be voting for Rodgers.
