Revisiting Tecmo Madison: NFL Films Documents Tournament

Exactly one year ago, following the first Saturday in March, I wrote this column for Cheesehead TV after visiting the largest Tecmo Super Bowl tournament in the world.
It’s organized by a pair of friends of mine, a relationship that dates back to primary school, and takes place in Madison, Wis. When they told me NFL Films would be there, I thought it was a joke.
It wasn’t a joke.
NFL Films examined the nostalgia of Tecmo Super Bowl, the popular Nintendo video game from the 1990s and the precursor to today’s Madden games, with a documentary that aired on ESPN and the NFL Network.
On Saturday, Tecmo IX takes place at Badger Bowl in Madison with a record 224 participants.
If you’re a fan of Tecmo, I suggest you check out an event that’s a spectacle in itself. But even if you can’t, enjoy a replay of the NFL Films documentary posted above.
