Report: Packers Visit with Player at Center of Seeberg Suicide Allegations

Notre Dame linebacker Prince Shembo was reported to make a pre-draft visit to Green Bay.

Notre Dame linebacker Prince Shembo made a pre-draft visit to Green Bay to meet with the Packers, according to Aaron Wilson of NationalFootballPost.com.

Perhaps one reason for bringing in Shembo for a visit was to discuss the Lizzie Seeberg incident.

In September of 2010, Seeberg—a student at Saint Mary's College in Notre Dame, Ind.—accused a Notre Dame football player of sexually assaulting her. She committed suicide 10 days later.

"Her parents have criticized Notre Dame for not acting quicker to investigate or interview the alleged perpetrator," according to Andrew Owens of Blue and Gold Illustrated.

While widely speculated as the player connected to Seeberg, Shembo admitted at the 2014 NFL Combine for the first time to being the player at the center of allegations, saying he has nothing to hide and tells NFL team executives the truth when asked about the situation.

Shembo said he was prevented from publicly talking about the matter by Irish head coach Brian Kelly.

“Yes, I wanted to talk about it, but they had to keep everything confidential,” Shembo is quoted as saying by Owens. “Now that I’m out (of the university), I can talk about it."

Shembo has not been criminally charged.

NFL teams are allotted 30 pre-draft visits in which players can fly out to team headquarters, meet with the team and go through a physical examination but cannot be worked out on site.

As a prospect, Shembo is another player in the outside linebacker/defensive end hybrid mold projected to be a mid to late round draft choice.

"Shembo started every game last season and had 46 tackles, five sacks, five tackles for losses, one forced fumble and 17 quarterback hurries. He had three sacks last season against Arizona State," writes Wilson.

The 17 quarterback hurries are the most in one season in school history since Notre Dame started keeping the statistic per NFLDraftScout.com.

Statistically, Shembo's best season came as a junior during Notre Dame's run to the national championship game when he made 51 tackles, 10.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks and 12 quarterback hurries.

At 6' 1" and 253 lbs. Shembo might be considered for a conversion to inside linebacker.

Other players reported to be making pre-draft visits to the Packers include:

  • Quarterback David Fales, San Jose State
  • Quarterback Keith Wenning, Ball State
  • Quarterback Brock Jensen, North Dakota State
  • Wide receiver Jeremy Butler, Tennessee-Martin
  • Center Luke Bowanko, Virginia
  • Offensive lineman John Fullington, Washington State
  • Offensive lineman Laurent Duvernay-Tardif, McGill
  • Cornerback Brandon Dixon, Northwest Missouri State
  • Cornerback Walt Aikens, Liberty
