Report: Packers Likely to Lose Assistant Coach Steve Marshall to Jets

The Green Bay Packers appear poised to lose assistant offensive line coach Steve Marshall, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN:

Marshall spent just one season with the Packers, having been hired just this past April following the resignation of former offensive line assistant Joel Hilgenberg.

Should Marshall leave, it would mark the end of his second stint coaching Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari. He was also the offensive line coach at the University of Colorado in 2011 and 2012 when Bakhtiari played there.

Before joining the Packers, Marshall was the offensive line coach at New Mexico State but had spent previous stints in the NFL with Houston Texans and Cleveland Browns.

The 2014 Packers offensive line was arguably the best unit has performed in a number years while under the tutelage of Marshall and James Campen. The 30 sacks allowed were the fewest since 2007.

Without access to the contracts of the coaching staff, it's unknown whether Marshall's had expired or the Packers allowed the Jets to interview him.

It's been common practice for the Packers to deny assitants on their staff under contract to interview for positions on other teams apart from head coach, such as they reportedly did earlier this week with the St. Louis Rams and quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt.

The Jets are establising a new staff under recently hired head coach Todd Bowles.
